Protecting the Land that Protects the Lake since 1988

The LGLC was recently surprised and honored to be the recipient of the Lake George High School’s (LGHS) graduating class’s “last act of giving back.”

Lake George Jr.-Sr. High School Principal Francis Cocozza explained, “It is a cherished tradition at Lake George High School for the graduating class to collectively decide the recipient of their remaining class funds, supplemented by donations from classmates during the graduation ceremony. This last act of giving back to our community as an LGHS student culminates as seniors place their contributions in a basket just before receiving their diplomas.”

This year, the LGHS Class of 2025 guided by the 2025 Senior Honor Group (top 10%) selected the LGLC, with a particular focus on the current campaign to protect the land on and around Pilot Knob Mountain.

“We are deeply grateful and touched that these LGHS students chose to donate to the LGLC,” expressed LGLC Executive Director Mike Horn. “Their class gift will leave a legacy of conservation and the protection of these lands and waters for generations to come.”

We are so pleased to have Nikki Buhac and Chelsea Wright with us this summer as our Programs Interns! They've been busy promoting and organizing events like the Hike-A-Thon and Gala, learning about stewardship and conservation with our field staff, and getting an overall deep dive into nonprofit land trust work. Nikki is a rising senior at Cornell University, pursuing a BA in information science, and minors in business and communications. She grew up in Saratoga and at her family home on Lake George.

"This internship has provided me with valuable skills that I will carry with me throughout my life," said Nikki, "but what makes this truly special is the opportunity to work closely with such passionate individuals who devote everything they can to realize the mission of the LGLC."

Chelsea grew up in Olmesteadville, and graduated from SUNY Potsdam this spring, earning a BS in geology with a minor in wilderness education.

"This internship has already opened so many doors for me as a recent graduate," said Chelsea, "such as learning the behind the scenes of how to run a huge event like Hike-A-Thon or making connections with environmental educational groups like Up Yonda Farm."

These summer positions are made possible with support from the George C. Singer Educational Fund.

This event is more than a party - it's our largest fundraising event of the year, and the generosity of our guests make an incredible impact on the health and future of Lake George.
