Protecting the Land that Protects the Lake since 1988

The LGLC has permanently protected a 27-acre property in Hague that stretches 1 mile along NYS Route 9N, from Forest Bay to the south end of Friends Point.

This protection project was completed thanks to generous members of the Forest Bay and Friends Point communities who responded to a matching donation offered by a neighbor.

Dubbed the Forest Friends Mile, the roadside land provides a healthy forested buffer between the road and adjoining timber land, protecting water quality and the scenic beauty of the area. The property also connects to a 288-acre property protected by a conservation easement held by the LGLC, extending the benefits of interconnected areas of natural habitat.

It's no surprise that the Hike-A-Thon helicopter is, for many, the highlight of the event - when you hear its distinctive sound coming near, you can't help but get excited and watch as photographer Carl Heilman practically hangs out of the open door to get his best photo of you and your group.

This year, one lucky fan will be able to join Carl as a passenger during the Hike-A-Thon! We are awarding one seat in the helicopter to the Hike-A-Thon's top fundraiser! Watch this reel to learn how to get started!

The Lake George Hike-A-Thon is a free, family-friendly event that will take place on Saturday, July 5, with 25+ guided groups around Lake George, followed by a free After Party.

You must register in advance. Sign up by April 1 to receive a free event t-shirt. Information about available sites, how to volunteer, and how to sponsor the event are all at lakegeorgehikeathon.org.

When hiking this time of year, trails can be everything from mildly messy to hazardous, due to the rapidly melting snow and ice. Trails at lower elevation and exposed to sunlight may look fine, but then turn dangerous as you climb to a higher elevation.

Hiking on muddy, wet trails can also cause erosion and otherwise damage the trails we work so hard to maintain for public use.

In order to minimize your impact on the land during transitioning seasons, please follow this advice from the NYS DEC:

• Stick to low-elevation hiking trails.
• Avoid hiking on any trails during periods of significant rainfall.
• If hiking on muddy or flooded trails - stay in the center of the trail to prevent erosion. The center of the trail can sustain boot prints.
