LHC is also gearing up for the 2024 Community Impact Project (CIP) application process, anticipated to open in late May/early June. To date, over 130 organizations have benefited from a Leadership CIP Team who've taken on a project or issue that a non-profit hasn't had the time, expertise or staff to research or address.

Join Howard County Library System at the Miller Branch on May 2 from 9:30 am to 4 pm for a free, in-depth workshop on how to be stronger, healthier change makers; achieve more equitable social change; and build social change ecosystems that last.  Click here to learn more and register.

  • Howard County General Hospital will hold a Youth Mental Health First Aid class virtually via Zoom on Friday, April 21, from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Participants will learn how to help adolescents, ages 12 to 18, who may be experiencing a mental health or addiction crisis, in a self-paced online course followed by a virtual instructor-led class. This course is free to community members and $25 to those attending on behalf of an employer. Click here to register.

 

  • In conjunction with National Prescription Drug Take-back Day, Howard County General Hospital will accept and dispose of unused, expired and unwanted medicines, no questions asked, at a drive-through to collect tablets, capsules, liquids, creams, e-cigarettes, vape pens and needles for safe, secure, environmentally friendly disposal on Saturday, April 22, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Hospital's Main Entrance located at  5755 Cedar Lane - Columbia, Maryland.

Summer is just around the corner, and you know what that means: it’s almost time for the next installation of Pitch and Mingle at the MIC, June 6 - The Pitchout!


The MIC is looking for disruptive ideas for both products and services. Local, early-stage startups with limited spending capacity, particularly those that are earning less than $10,000 annually, are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to pre-revenue businesses. Five pitches will be selected for presentation. Prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place, as well as the audience favorite. Applications are due Monday, May 1 by 5 pm. The Howard County Board of Education is seeking members for the Board’s Operating Budget Review Committee (OBRC) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. Interested parties should submit a statement of interest online by Monday, May 15, 2023. Please contact David Clark, OBRC Board' Liaison with any questions.

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is pleased to announce the rebranding of the High School Gifted and Talented Orchestra as the Howard County Youth Orchestra (HCYO), and scheduling of its inaugural performance with the alternative-rock band, Guster at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Sunday, May 21, beginning at 7:30 pm.
