Last week, LHC was thrilled to help bring together alumni from many of our regional community leadership programs to hear from representatives from the Chesapeake Conservancy and the National Parks Conservation Association to learn about the proposed Chesapeake National Recreation area, a new national park for the Chesapeake. LHC is piloting a "Supper Club", a gathering to foster engagement and dialogue between alumni. Our first "Club" is set for Wednesday, February 15 from 6 to 9 pm at Ranazul, 8171 Maple Lawn Boulevard, #170, Fulton, MD 20759. This initial event will be limited to 10 attendees, in addition to a "Mystery Host".

Leadership U 2023 is preparing to kick off. The application, and related materials, may be found at the LHC website - the deadline to apply is March 31, 2023. Both students and parents are encouraged to attend an Information Session to learn more - mark your calendars for one of the upcoming dates:

LHC, in partnership with the Horizon Foundation, looks forward to learning more about Maryland's 988 Helpline and resources available to address and strengthen mental health. Mark your calendar for Friday, February 24 from 11:30 am to 1 pm . More details and registration will open soon!

Congratulations to Mae A. Beale, LP '20, who was honored at the 2023 MLK Celebration of Life & Legacy ceremony and recognized with the Living the Dream Award.


Best wishes to Jenna Crawley, LP '22, who has launched her own consulting firm, Crawley Consulting, a firm focused on creating strong, coordinated systems serving older adults and promoting healthy aging.


Patricia Gordon, LP '03, passed away on November 26, 2022. A celebration of life was held and honored her impact, especially on youth and education - notable that her life's work continues to make a difference. Read obituary.

Chip Lundy, LP '91, passed away December 11, 2022. In honor of his long-standing service to the community, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 28, beginning at 11 am at Grace Community Church. Read obituary.

The Howard County Chamber is hosting a free, virtual information session Wednesday, January 18 from to to provide information about the 2023 Summer Teacher Externship Initiative, a partnership between HCPSS and the Bright Minds Foundation. Click here to learn more.

The Columbia Association, Howard County Library System, and Howard Community College are co-hosting Change Inspired, Courage Ignited on Thursday, January 19 from 4 to 7 pm at Howard Community College. The event will include a panel discussion with HCLS President & CEO, Tonya AikensLP '19, CA President & CEO, Lakey BoydLP '23, and HCC President, Dr. Daria Willis, sharing their candid and honest insights, reflecting on their experiences of overcoming obstacles and embracing the power of positive change. Plus, participants will choose from multiple informative and interactive breakout sessions.

Change Inspired, Courage Ignited is FREE and open to the public, but registration is highly encouraged.

Howard County's COAD recently announced an Equity in Emergency Management Training that is taking place on Thursday, January 26 from 8 am to 4 pm. Limited space is available; if interested in learning more and to register, please contact Callie Gorgol for more information.
