Fun for All Ages at the Linden Hills Fall Festival! | |

Mark your calendars! We are excited to host our annual Linden Hills Fall Festival on Saturday, September 21 from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Linden Hills Park. Join your neighbors and friends for an all-day celebration featuring a full slate of live local music, activities, and other entertainment! Food, beer, and wine will be available for purchase.
Bringing kids? If you're bringing kiddos, you'll want to hit the first half of the festival because the Mint Orthodontics Kid Zone will only be open from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Want to help out? We're still seeking a few volunteers! We need help with the bike parade, zero-waste stations, and the silent auction. Take a shift – it's a great way to meet your neighbors!

Construction Updates Across Linden Hills | |

43rd & Upton Construction
Metro Transit is now working to install the bus stops and "bump-outs" for the Metro E-Line in the village. This construction includes partial street reconstruction, traffic signal reconstruction, and new station platforms, sidewalks, and pedestrian ramps.
This project is expected to wrap later this month or early October. We are grateful that, in direct response to the residents and businesses who spoke up about the construction delays, the Met Council has added a second concrete crew to this area to speed up progress!
Traffic is currently open northbound. Southbound traffic is anticipated to reopen the second week of September. Follow this page for up-to-date information.
44th & France Construction
As the France corridor also prepares for the future of the Metro E-Line, southbound traffic on France Ave from 39th to 44th remains shut down and is being detoured to Xerxes Ave. 44th & Beard has been reopened. This project is still on track and should re-open in September.
Residential Water Main Renewal Project
The phased work to remove built-up mineral deposits and to add epoxy liner to existing cast iron pipes that make up our water main continues. The project is tackling half of the streets in Linden Hills in 2024, and the other half in 2025. The 2024 project will be completed by November.

Attend the District 6 MPS School Board Candidate Forum | |

LHiNC has partnered with seven other neighborhood associations to plan this forum for neighbors to meet Lara Bergman and Greta Callahan – the two candidates running to represent District 6 on the MPS School Board. The neighborhood associations will work with the moderator to develop a forum that reflects the community's interests, so voters can feel more confident when they cast their ballots.
The forum will start at 6:30 pm, but you can arrive as early as 6:00 pm to meet and socialize with neighbors. The event will also be live-streamed from the Lyndale Neighborhood Association's YouTube.

For years, the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council has published a quarterly print newsletter called The Linden Hills Line. This is volunteer-run but costs $8,800 annually to print and mail to all Linden Hills residents (16% of the council’s annual budget).
Over the last several years, city funding for LHiNC has decreased. With a smaller budget, we have to decide what we continue to do.

Como-Harriet Streetcar Line Moves to Fall Schedule | |

The Como-Harriet Streetcar Line has moved to its fall weekend-only schedule. But there are plenty of special events coming up!

All Aboard Service for our neurodiverse families and friends is from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Sunday, September 8. Regular fare.

American Sign Language Social from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13. Trolley ride narrated in ASL with 7:00 p.m. ASL-narrated carbarn tour. Free.
- Plus a full slate of Halloween events for all ages, including Farmer Ken and Jan's Pumpkin Patch, Graveyard Ghost Stories (online reservations required), the Transylvania Trolley with Count Karl, The Late Show (online reservations required), Streetcar Named Expire, Trick 'r Trolley, and Spirits on a Streetcar.
If you have a birthday or other special event coming up, consider chartering a streetcar to make your birthday or event truly memorable. To charter a streetcar, and for any other information about the Museum, visit trolleyride.org.

Join The Neighborhood Choir! | |
The Neighborhood Choir, directed by Nathan Knoll, meets on Thursdays from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Friends Meetinghouse at 4401 York Ave S. The choir sings all kinds of choral pieces, including show tunes, cultural pieces, lullabies, pop tunes, and more! This is a laid-back group of neighbors who share many laughs!
The first rehearsal for the fall session is on Thursday, September 12. The choir will perform a Friends and Family concert on Thursday, January 30.
All adult singers are welcome – no auditions are required! The registration fee is $125; scholarships are available. The registration fee helps pay for the director's time, accompanist, space for rehearsals, etc. Participants should bring cash or a check to the first rehearsal (no credit card payments).

Who Lived Here? Longtime Linden Hills Residents and their Homes
Through memories, research, and photographs, descendants of four families who put down roots in different parts of Linden Hills will compare and contrast their personal experiences and those of their forebears, building homes and navigating events of the Twentieth Century.
The suggested donation is $5 for non-members of LHHSG. Everyone is welcome.

Environmental Justice Bus Tour
Saturday, September 28
10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Join your southwest Minneapolis neighbors for a tour of North Minneapolis with community leaders and hear about the issues around some of the most persistent environmental health problems in low-income and communities of color in the state.
Bus tour tickets are $25 each and all ticket sales directly support Community Members for Environmental Justice (CMEJ). Limited seats are available.
This event is made possible by donations from the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council, the Fulton Neighborhood Association, Armatage Neighborhood Association, and the Tangletown Neighborhood Council.

Planned Changes to Departure Flight Procedures at MSP Airport | |

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) held two public webinars in August to present information and take questions on new procedures for flight departures from the MSP Airport. The FAA is implementing GPS-based navigation (instead of ground-based navigation) to help modernize the national airspace. Some may recall that MSP airport switched to GPS-based navigation for arrivals a few years ago; the plan is to implement it for departures as well.
GPS-based procedures are seen as safer and more efficient, adding precision to flight paths, but they also have the potential to change flight patterns and the experience on the ground. You can listen to the webinar recordings and submit comments here.

This summer's weather has been particularly hard on the trees. Have you been thinking about replacing trees you lost? Now's the time to shade your yard, save energy, and improve our city!
The City of Minneapolis Tree Sale runs through September 30 at 4:00 p.m. You can purchase trees for just $30! Minneapolis residents may purchase up to three trees per planting address. You'll pick up your trees October 11-13.
What's better than a $30 tree? A free one! LHiNC is refunding the first 50 Linden Hills households to purchase trees and complete this form.

If you love this community and are looking for a new way to contribute to it, consider running for a position on the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council (LHiNC). LHiNC is a group of 12-15 volunteer board members elected by the community to serve 2-year terms.
Join the LHiNC Board to:
- Learn more about your neighborhood
- Work with others who are invested in Linden Hills and meet some amazing people
- Engage with decision-makers from across the city
- Have fun and benefit your community
We want a board that represents everyone who lives in Linden Hills. The only requirements are that you reside in Linden Hills and are at least 18 years old. Applications are due by October 1.

| The Fletcher: 44th & Vincent Developers Share Latest Plan and Rendering | Earlier this month at the LHiNC Zoning and Housing meeting, Thomas Hertzog of Good Neighbor Homes and Charles Burdick of Streetfront Development shared new plans for The Fletcher, a 15-unit condo building they are proposing at 44th and Vincent. The project would be built on the property currently occupied by homes from 2815-2821 44th Street West. The team had previously shared a vision for an apartment complex in the same location. LHiNC is excited to announce a new Community Coordinator, Vasiliki Papanikolopoulos. Vasiliki will be taking over for Gina Rautenberg, who served as Interim Executive Director for the last year.
As the part-time staff for LHiNC, Vasiliki will help manage board meetings, projects, and partnerships for Linden Hills. In addition to performing a similar role with the East Harriet Neighborhood Association, Vasiliki brings a wealth of experience in helping local retail businesses. Welcome, Vasiliki!

September 6: Weekly Baby Storytime at Linden Hills Library on Fridays at 10a & 11a. Share books, stories, rhymes, music and movement in a format especially designed for babies. For children from birth to 24 months.
September 7: Read to a Dog at the Linden Hills Library on Saturday, 9/7 from 11a-1p. Cuddle up with a certified therapy dog and practice reading aloud. Sign up when you arrive for a 15-minute slot. Bring your own favorite book or use one of ours. Ages K-5, free.
