Find out if you have a lead water service line

The City of Minneapolis has created a Lead Service Line Map to help you know whether your property has a lead water service line. 

Residents with a lead water service line can take the following steps:

• Always use cold water for cooking and drinking
• Run your water for a few minutes before using it
• As a precautionary measure, you can use a lead-reducing filter or pitcher

The Toy and Food Drive for Waite House is back!

LHiNC is helping collect toys and food for Waite House, a long-standing pillar of the vibrant Phillips Community in South Minneapolis. from December 7 to 15. Feel free to sign up for a volunteer shift helping collect food and toys brought to the container at the Saint Thomas The Apostle Church parking lot on December 7, 8, 14 or 15!

Reindeer Day is this Saturday, 12/7

Mint Orthodontics is hosting Reindeer Day again this year! Join local businesses for a day of family-friendly holiday fun, with crafts, food, storytime, and more at the 43rd & Upton intersection from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, December 7.

After listening to your feedback last year, LHiNC sponsored the closure of this intersection during the event for safety and community building.

Learn with the Linden Hills History Study Group on Saturday, 12/7

Linden Hills History Study Group is hosting two discussions (Living New Deal and Twin Cities Canceled Freeways discussions with Aaron Isaacs) on Saturday, 12/7 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church. Optional lunch at The Hilltop to follow (make lunch reservations with the LHHSG).

Everyone is welcome. The suggested donation is $5 for non-members of LHHSG.

France 44 Holiday Market on Sunday, 12/8

France 44 is hosting a Holiday Market on Sunday, 12/8 from 11a-3p. This open-house-style event will feature a variety of local makers, producers, and artists. Peruse unique handmade gifts and treats while you take in our gorgeous holiday decorations and sip on a hot drink, all within the coziness of the France 44 Event Space. No reservations necessary—just come on up and join the festivities!

Die Hard Trivia Night at Wooden Ship on Monday, 12/9

Wooden Ship Brewing Company is hosting a Die Hard Trivia Theme Night (the original movie only!) next Monday, December 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Argue whether it's a holiday movie or not while testing your Die Hard trivia skills!

Holiday Wine & Stroll on Thursday, 12/12

Help count birds in the Roberts Bird Sanctuary on Sunday, 12/15

All are welcome to participate in the 2024 Winter Bird Count from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m! At the start of the count, the Friends of Roberts will provide hot coffee and cocoa in the visitors shelter at the east entrance (adjacent to the Peace Garden parking lot).

Linden Hills Farmers Market Holiday Market on Sunday, 12/15

Support the Linden Hills Farmers Market during their off-season by visiting their Holiday Market at Time Out Studio (6001 Lyndale Ave S) on Sunday, 12/15 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Pick up items from your favorite vendors for yourself or to give to the folks in your life who love artisanal local foods and crafts! Be sure to grab lunch from a food truck!

Holiday Potluck & Book Swap at Comma on Sunday, 12/15

Join Comma on Sunday, 12/15 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. for a Holiday Potluck & Book Swap. Bring a new or used copy of your favorite read from the past year to gift to another reader, and take home a gifted recommendation from someone new. Potluck treats welcomed.

Drop-off location for cold weather donation drive

While LHiNC is not hosting a coat drive this year, the Linden Hills Library is a drop-off location for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Annual Cold Weather Donation Drive through the end of February. This drive collects cold-weather items for those in need, including homeless and unsheltered individuals in Hennepin County. 

LHiNC Helped Celebrate the Opening of Le Burger 4304

LHiNC celebrated the opening of Le Burger 4304 with a ribbon cutting alongside Josh and Libby from the Le Burger team and City Council Member Linea Palmisano. Le Burger is a casual and upbeat place for burgers, fries, and soft serve. Check it out, if you haven't had a chance yet!

West Lake Harriet Parkway between 42nd and 45th Streets will be closed this December

West Lake Harriet Parkway is scheduled to close between 42nd Street and 45th Street beginning Monday, Dec. 2, 2024. The closure is permitted through Dec. 31, 2024, and is necessary for CenterPoint Energy to replace gas lines in the area.

Traffic will be detoured to Sheridan/Upton Avenue S. Local access will be maintained and trails will remain open, but please follow detours, slow down, and stay out of work areas. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board appreciates the public's patience while public infrastructure is repaired.

Snow season is upon us – help keep the neighborhood accessible!

Sidewalk clearing basics

• Shovel the full width of the city sidewalk along your entire property down to bare pavement
• If the snow is packed down or there’s ice you cannot remove, sprinkle sand until it's warm enough to remove the buildup (you can get free sand/salt mix from the City to spread on your snow-packed or icy sidewalk)
• If you live on a corner, clear curb cutouts at the street corners and crosswalks
• Shovel around your garbage, organics, and recycling carts
• Shovel snow into your yard or boulevard – do not shovel snow into streets or alleys
• If you'll be away, arrange for someone else to shovel
• If you do not shovel and properly maintain your sidewalk, crews may be sent to remove the snow and ice and you will be billed for the work
• Contact 311 to report a sidewalk snow and ice complaint

Use less salt to protect our environment

Salt is a major concern for all bodies of water. Take the City's salt mini-course to learn how salt impacts the environment and best practices for snow and ice removal. This course takes about 30 minutes to complete.
