How Should I Dispose of Old Pumpkins? And Political Yard Signs? | |

Pumpkins and other gourds are great fuel for compost!
Add them to your backyard compost bin or put them in your organics recycling cart. They don’t need to be bagged.
If you haven’t signed up for organics recycling, you can put carved pumpkins and other gourds with your yard waste.
Before composting, remove all candles, candle wax, paint, and other decorations. Added synthetic materials such as paint, permanent markers, glitter, or jewels make pumpkins non-compostable, and then they have to go in the black garbage cart.

Recycle your political yard signs!
Hennepin County is hosting a yard sign recycling drop-off program from November 12-26 at the following locations:
Minnetonka/Hopkins Recycling Center (11522 Minnetonka Blvd). Open 24/7.
Minneapolis North Transfer Station (2710 Pacific St N). Open 24/7; the collection container will be outside the gate.
Hennepin County Drop-Off Facilities in Bloomington (1400 W 96th St) and Brooklyn Park (8100 Jefferson Hwy). Open Tue-Sat, 9a-5p; proof of residency required.
Before dropping yard signs off, contact your campaign to ask if they want the signs back.

Neighbors have started a petition calling on local elected and appointed officials to make the temporary stoplight at the intersection of 39th Street & France Avenue a permanent fixture. | |
France 44 Currently Seeking Holiday Musicians & Vendors | |

Apply to perform during France 44's Live Holiday Music weekend, which will fall on Friday, December 20, Saturday, December 21, and Monday, December 23 in their outdoor covered patio space.
Apply as a vendor for the second annual France 44 Holiday Market, which will take place on Sunday, December 8 from 11am – 3pm in the France 44 Event Space. Vendor applications will be selected based on order of submission and variety of products to make for a balanced selection.
Both applications are due by next Monday, November 11. Selection will be completed and musicians and vendors will be notified by Friday, November 15.

Fall Street Sweeping Continues Through Friday, November 15
Minneapolis Public Works is currently working on big task of curb-to-curb street sweeping throughout the city. During the four weeks of the comprehensive fall street sweep, crews will clean about 1,000 miles of city streets. View the Street Sweeping Schedule Map to find out which week your street is scheduled to be swept.

Yard Waste Collection Ends Week of November 25
Set properly prepared yard waste at your alleys or curb line next to your garbage carts by 6:00 a.m. on your pickup day. Yard waste should be set out in a reusable container, in compostable bags (paper or BPI-certified compostable plastic bags) or bundled with string or twine (no wire or tape). Raking leaves into the street is against the law and bad for our lakes, creeks and river.

ForagesScape: Linden Hills Farmers Market vendor ForageScape Farm is also selling turkeys for the holiday. They are a family farm located south of Mille Lacs Lake that produces pasture-raised non-GMO pork, chicken, turkey, and eggs, as well as 100% grass-fed beef and lamb. They offer weekly home delivery and pickup from the Settergren’s Hardware parking lot. Learn more and reserve your holiday bird.

LHiNC's November Board Meeting has been rescheduled to next Tuesday, November 12, from 7:00 to 8:45 p.m. at the Linden Hills Recreation Center.
We will be orienting new board members and discussing upcoming efforts.

| Drop Off Cold Weather Donations at Linden Hills Library | |
LHiNC is not hosting a coat drive this year, but the Linden Hills Library is a drop-off location for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Annual Cold Weather Donation Drive. This drive collects cold-weather items for those in need, including homeless and unsheltered individuals in Hennepin County.
Requested items include:
- New or gently used coats, hats, mittens, boots, and scarves
- New socks
- Disposable hand/foot warmers
Please do not donate used items that require extensive cleaning or repair.
Drop off your donations at the Linden Hills Library through February 28, 2025.

Join us for Reindeer Day on Saturday, December 7 | |
Mint Orthodontics is hosting Reindeer Day again this year! Join local businesses for a day of family-friendly holiday fun, with crafts, food, storytime, and more at the 43rd & Upton intersection. Reindeer Day will take place on Saturday, December 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
After listening to your feedback last year, we have requested closure of this intersection during the event for safety and community building.
| Toy and Food Drive for Waite House Returning in December | |
This year's Toy and Food Drive for Waite House will occur from December 7 to 15.
We're aiming to provide food and toys for 300 families (1,000 children) receiving support from Waite House. Wait House is a long-standing pillar of the vibrant Phillips Community in South Minneapolis.
This Toy and Food Drive is sponsored by Big Blue Box, St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Carondelet Catholic School, Jones Coffee, and the Linden Hills and Fulton Neighborhood Councils.

Living New Deal with Aaron Isaacs
During the Great Depression of the 1930s, the federal government under President Franklin Roosevelt undertook a major investment in public infrastructure to fight unemployment and keep the economy afloat. Although it has been over 80 years since those projects were completed, many are still in place, functioning for what they were designed to do. Aaron Isaacs will show us sites in Minnesota.
Twin Cities Canceled Freeways with Aaron Isaacs
We all know how I-94 and I-35W displaced African American neighborhoods. The impact on the Twin Cities could have been much more pronounced had eight other proposed urban freeways been built. Learn where they were supposed to go and how close they came to happening.

Last Chances to Ride the Como-Harriet Streetcar Line for the Year | |

The Como-Harriet Streetcar Line's 2024 season comes to an end with its beloved Holly Trolley featuring Santa Claus. Take a ride with and meet Santa on a streetcar festooned with holiday greenery. Visit the Boy Scouts' fire. Roast a hot dog and toast a marshmallow over a fire and make a s'more. Wash it all down with a hot beverage.
- Streetcars will run from 12:00 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, November 30 and December 1, 7, and 8.
- $5.00 per passenger.
- Tickets are sold for individual trips and go on sale in the Linden Hills Station at 11:30 a.m. for any trip that day.
There'll be an advance "All Aboard" Holly Trolley for our neurodiverse families and friends from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29 with rides aboard a streetcar festooned with holiday greenery. Regular $3.00 per person fare, children under four ride for free. No advance reservations.
You can also experience the streetcar in winter at Vinternatt from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 7. Details will be posted soon on the website.
For all events, you're invited to share the joy of the season. Please bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.
Otherwise, streetcar service will resume in May 2025. If you're interested in learning more about how streetcars are maintained and restored, that's the Museum's main winter activity. Crews work from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on most Tuesdays and Saturdays. You can reach us at www.trolleyride.org to find out more and how to get involved. Experience with electrical work, metalwork, and woodwork is great. But there are plenty of jobs for everyone!
