LHiNC 2025 Spring Grant Cycle Open Now

The 2025 Linden Hills Neighborhood Council Spring grant application is now open! Each spring, LHiNC accepts applications for grants of up to $1000, to organizations, projects, and programs that make Linden Hills a better place to live and work. In the past, we’ve funded local school groups and organizations, ASL interpreters on Como-Harriet street car rides, art projects, and many local musical acts. 

Apply through this form no later than 11:59 p.m. on March 28, 2025. Late submissions cannot be considered. Get more information on the application process and timeline here.

Enter the City of Minneapolis Tree Sale Lottery by March 14 🌳🍃

Residents interested in purchasing a tree through this spring's City of Minneapolis Tree Sale should enter the lottery for the chance to purchase a tree. Trees are $30 each. You may purchase 3 trees per Minneapolis address. Please fill out the LOTTERY FORM before March 14; if selected, you will be notified by email and ordering will open on March 17.

If you end up purchasing a tree through the City of Minneapolis Tree Sale, don't forget that LHiNC is reimbursing the first 50 Linden Hills households to purchase trees and complete this form.

Protect our pollinators. Don’t rake your leaves yet! 🐝

Pollinators nest in the broken stems of plants and overwinter in leaf piles. With warmer temperatures in the forecast, please do not rake any leaves that you didn’t get to before yard waste season ended. Yard waste collection will not resume until April 7, 2025 anyway.

Sunnyside Gardens reopened their doors for the season! Their greenhouses are full, and they can’t wait to see you! Whether you’re here for fresh plants, expert advice, or just the feeling of spring in the air—they’re so happy to welcome our community back.

Learn how to become a house history detective with LHHSG🕵️

You live in an older house in the Twin Cities. Congratulations! Do you wonder when it was built? For how much? Who lived there? What did it look like? What were the surroundings?

Local historian Kathy Kullberg will share the tools and resources to find those answers, and other interesting details of your building’s history. By the end of the evening, you will be equipped for your own sleuthing.

Meet up with the Linden Hills Neighborhood Walking Group 👟

Enjoy an hour walk around Linden Hills as you visit with neighbors and pick up trash. Next walks are scheduled for 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, 3/13 and Thursday, 3/27.

Meet at the Linden Hills Recreation Center by the lil' lending library, 3100 W 43rd Street. Bathrooms and parking available. Dogs and guests are welcome. No RSVP required. We are the latest addition to the Minneapolis Neighborhood Safety Clubs. The frequency of walks depends on participation numbers.

Learn how to drive a streetcar this spring!

The Minnesota Streetcar Museum is training volunteers to be streetcar operators this spring. As of February 20, there were 16 of 25 positions left. So, if you're interested, please let the team know by March 19. There are other volunteer opportunities available too: these include streetcar, track, building, gardens, grounds, and overhead wire maintenance and station agents. 

If you see the streetcar out in March and April, it'll be for testing and training. Regular service resumes at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. See you then!

⚡️ Jonathan Stroud is coming to Wild Rumpus Books! ⚡️

In case you missed it, Jonathan Stroud, author of multiple renowned book series for young readers, is coming to Wild Rumpus Books on Monday, March 24th at 6:00 p.m.!

We know he has a lot of fans from across his 20+ years of publishing, so make sure to grab tickets before they're gone!

Apply for Hennepin County waste prevention grants for businesses and nonprofit organizations ♻️

Are you a business, nonprofit organization or reuse retailer looking to prevent waste? Hennepin County has a grant program to support just that! This year, $400,000 is available to fund projects that focus on waste prevention, including:

• Replacing disposables with reusables
• Preventing wasted food
• Reusing and recovering goods and materials
• Supporting innovative waste prevention research and development

Grant dates and deadlines: Applications are due by 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8.

Apply for up to $50,000 for your project, with a minimum grant amount of $2,500. All projects must include matching funds of 25% of the total grant fund request. Review the grant guidelines and flyer for more information on the program and requirements.

Virtual information meeting: Attend the virtual information meeting via Zoom on Thursday, March 20, from 2 to 3 p.m. to hear about project ideas, understand the application process, and ask questions. Access the meeting.

🩸 LHiNC Board Member Noe Abrams is coordinating the second annual neighborhood blood drive with the American Red Cross on Friday, April 18. This blood drive takes place at the Linden Hills Recreation Center from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Reserve your donor spot now!

🗑️ LHiNC is hosting a Linden Hills Earth Day Cleanup again this year on Saturday, April 19!

💵 LHiNC's neighborhood-wide garage sale is returning on Saturday, May 3! We include traditional garage sales, Buy Nothing free sales, and retail sidewalk sales. There were 90+ sales hosted across Linden Hills last year!

🍷 LHiNC's annual fundraiser Taste of Linden Hills is back on Tuesday, May 20! This fun, upscale evening celebrates the amazing food in our neighborhood and raises money that we invest right back into the community through neighborhood grants, events, and other programs.
