Kathy Hochul takes Ceremonial Oath of Office as NY's First Woman Governor
Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul became New York’s first female governor early Tuesday with what she promises to be a fresh and more collegial way of running the state after Andrew M. Cuomo’s decade in office. Almost immediately, Ms. Hochul will have to juggle various pressing issues, from working with lawmakers to strengthen an eviction moratorium that expires later this month to deciding whom to retain from Mr. Cuomo’s cabinet
Governor Kathy Hochul began her political career in Western New York as a Councilwoman on the Hamburg Town Council and later served as Town Clerk. Governor Hochul also represented New York’s 26th Congressional District in the House of Representatives from 2011-2013. She became Lt. Governor in 2015.
