Kinderhook Memorial Library : Finding New Ways to Deliver on It's Mission
"It seems that there are fewer and fewer places in the world for people to simply exist. The library provides that space—a gathering area for people to simply be without any expectation. It’s a place to meet with friends and associates, catch up with neighbors, go after school, or find some peace and quiet. Where else can someone go to just hang out for hours at a time, all year round?"

Cohoes Public Library :
Rebuilding Connection with the Cities Youth
| |
"We are working hard to rebuild our relationship with our young people. I think it is important to meet the children where they are in a way that is welcoming and not intimidating to them. By holding programming that aligns with their established interests, we are hoping to make the library space familiar and welcoming to them."

Troy Library : Resisting False Narratives to Build Community Bridges
"As we see an increase in divisive politics and sketchy news stories, public Libraries are more important than ever. The importance of having a place where we know that the facts have been checked by professionals and each item added has gone through multiple rounds of consideration cannot be overstated. In a world of manufactured outrage, it is vital that each community have at least one source of consistency and accuracy."

Named the “premiere song-stylist and songwriter of her generation” by The New Yorker, and “The Duchess of Coolsville” by Time magazine, Jones released her Grammy-nominated album Pieces of Treasure in 2023, a reunion with Russ Titelman, who produced her first two records. Jones’ celebrated memoir Last Chance Texaco was named Book of the Year by MOJO and a Best Book of the Year at Pitchfork and NPR. The Independent writes, “There has always been something defiant about Rickie Lee Jones . . . a voice from a dream, elusive yet familiar, transcendent, a messenger from another place.”

INSIDE ACE! | CREATING A NEW PATH
Keeping an eye on what has been happening at libraries in some states of our union and the pressures that they have been facing to clamp down on their core mission, I felt it was time to provide a little educational support. Growing up, my mother used to take my two sisters and I to the downtown library in Brattleboro Vermont for story hour and to take out books. I remember looking forward to those moments, thrilled by the brutalist architecture and excitement of the space. In high school, the connection continued. After school I had a gig working at the library in Claremont New Hampshire organizing the card catalog and working the children library desk on weekends. These connections formed a deep love of reading and gave me an understanding of how to research and the joys of taking in knowledge.
Today, with so many distractions, it's even more important that we engage with and support our libraries as not only houses of knowledge but as critical community resources. Please take a moment to understand why by reading my conversations with libraries from (3) cities and (3) counties (Kinderhook in Columbia | Cohoes in Albany | Troy in Rensselaer). Then...take your littles to the library!
Also, big thanks to Diane's team at the EGG for the amazing 2 way giveaway this month!
