LICP's Annual Awards Gala returns on September 21 at JACX&CO. The signature event attracts more than 350 business and civic leaders from across the city for an evening featuring networking, entertainment, delectable light bites and drinks. Now in its 32nd year, the Gala continues in the celebration of excellence in leadership and community impact. We’re pleased to share that this year’s honorees include The Floating Hospital and Plaxall, both of which exemplify these themes.

20+ Artists Profiled in 'Alone/Together' Exhibit - Through August 29
|
'Alone / Together: A Visual Meditation on Our Times', is the second exhibition from ART BreakOUT, a platform for underrepresented and self-taught artists. The works are on view through August 29 at The Local NY (1302 44th Ave) and features over 20 artists who explore themes of alienation, displacement, trauma, healing, co-existence and rebirth. Queensbridge Native Nas Returns to Borough with Stadium Concert - Sept 23
|
Legendary LIC born-and-bred hip hop artist Nas is hosting the ‘Concert to Feed NYC’ at Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium on September 23. All proceeds from the show will go to City Harvest, NYC’s largest food rescue organization. This will be Nas' first concert in the borough in three years. More information here.

Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) Moves to LIC
|
The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) is set to reopen following its shutdown due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. APAC’s new home is the former location of The Secret Theatre, at 44-02 23 St. The new move marks APAC’s first dedicated performance space, led by its new artistic director Tony Williams II. “Summer Stars”, one of the theater company’s most popular programs, is set to launch for two performances only starting on August 28. Summer Stars is aimed at community members aged 8-15 who are looking to hone their talents in theater. More information on the Astoria Performing Arts Center can be found here.

Staple waterfront eatery American Brass was highlighted as one of Architectural Digest's top "Outdoor Restaurants Across the Globe With Spectacular Views." The roundup considers restaurants from Paris to Bangkok that offer scenery that's just as extraordinary as its food. Urban Upbound Featured on NBC for Child Tax Credit Education Efforts
|
LICP Member Urban Upbound was featured in a recent NBC News segment on local organizations making sure that eligible families don’t miss out on the federal child tax credit. Bishop Taylor, Urban Upbound’s Co-founder and President, discusses the organization’s efforts to provide low-income communities with financial literacy and employment assistance. Street Cleaning Program to Expand Across Western Queens
|
Street cleanings have been expanded to include parts of LIC, Sunnyside, and Astoria. The additional cleaning efforts began on August 12, using funds allocated from the city. The non-profit organization ACE, previously known as the Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless, will manage the program. More information can be found here.

LICP Business Assistance Manager, Osagie Afe, attended Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney’s jobs fair at Jacob Riis Neighborhood Settlement on Wednesday, August 25. There, he had the delight of meeting the congresswoman, along with a variety of local businesses. LICP remains committed to assisting area businesses with their efforts to employ diverse staff. Cafe at Hunter's Point South Park RFP - Addendum Added
|
The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation has issued a request for proposals for the renovation, operation, and maintenance of a café at Hunter’s Point South Park, Queens (formerly COFFEED). A Safety Update from the 108th Precinct
|
|
Key to NYC Requirements
As of August 17, people 12 and older are required to show proof they have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine authorized for emergency use by the FDA or WHO for:
Indoor Dining
- Includes restaurants, catering halls, event spaces, hotel banquet rooms, bars, nightclubs, cafeterias, grocery stores with indoor dining, coffee shops and fast food or quick service with indoor dining
Indoor Fitness
- Includes gyms, fitness centers, fitness classes, pools, indoor studios and dance studios
Indoor Entertainment
- Includes movie theaters, music and concert venues, museums and galleries, aquariums and zoos, professional sports arenas, indoor stadiums, convention centers, exhibition halls, performing arts theaters, bowling alleys, arcades, pool and billiard halls, recreational game centers, adult entertainment and indoor play areas
This new requirement includes bars, fitness gyms, movie and stage theatres, museums and other indoor venues. Staff at these locations are also required to be vaccinated.
The City will begin assessing fines to establishments that fail to comply with the vaccination mandate on September 13, 2021. Failure to comply will result in violations of not less than $1,000 per offense, and could result in fines of up to $5,000 per offense if the entity is found to repeatedly fail to check for vaccination within a 12 month period.
