Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks® Returns |
Long Island City dwellers will once again have a front row seat to Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks®, which returns following a hiatus due to the pandemic. It is the nation’s largest Independence Day celebration. This year's event will feature performances by Black Pumas, Coldplay, OneRepublic and Reba McEntire, among others. Details here. New York City Corps Employment Opportunity |
City Service Corps, an AmeriCorps program launched in 2015 by NYC Service, a division of the Mayor’s office, recruits individuals to serve full-time from September 1, 2021 to July 8, 2022 at City agency host sites. Summer Interns at No Cost to You |
Summer Youth Employment Project (via Sunnyside Community Services) is working to place 30 trained 16-18-year-old high school students in roles/industries including (but not limited to) office support, retail, customer service, summer camp, data entry, food industry and nonprofit support. NYC Center for Youth Employment is working to help 75,000 young New Yorkers find paid summer work experiences. The organization is seeking employers to participate at no cost; NYC covers all program expenses. Jobs can be in person or remote. Nearly All Remaining Covid Restrictions Lifted; 70% of New Yorkers Vaccinated |
Yesterday, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that COVID-19 restrictions are lifted immediately as 70 percent of New Yorkers aged 18 or older have received the first dose of their COVID-19 vaccination series. The State's health guidance and New York Forward industry specific guidelines—including social gathering limits, capacity restrictions, social distancing, cleaning and disinfection, health screening, and contact information for tracing—are now optional for retail, food services, offices, gyms and fitness centers, amusement and family entertainment, hair salons, barber shops and personal care services, among other commercial settings. Reopening and Recovery Updates:
Beginning May 19:
- Restaurants, museums, theaters, retail stores and other businesses will be allowed to reopen at full capacity, as long as six feet of social distancing space is maintained
Expected July 1:
- Both Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo have announced a July 1 target date for NYC to 'reopen'
Through August 31:
- Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law on Tuesday May 4, including the measure extending the eviction moratorium to Aug. 31.
COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Expanded:
- All New Yorkers 12 years of age and older are now eligible to be vaccinated. People who work or study in New York are also eligible. Most City-run sites are offering walk-up vaccinations for New Yorkers. You do not need an appointment at these sites. You can also schedule an appointment for certain vaccination sites by calling 877-VAX-4NYC (877-829-4692). Note, people who are 12 to 17 years old can only receive the Pfizer vaccine.
Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) Update
The SBA will provide $5 billion in additional Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) assistance to one million small businesses and nonprofit organizations that have been most severely impacted by the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Effective April 22, the SBA modified the Targeted EIDL Advance loan application process to determine if businesses also qualify for an additional $5,000 available under the new Supplemental Targeted Advance loan program. Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) Application – The SBA SVOG program reopened for applications on Monday, April 26. The $16 billion grant program provides emergency assistance for eligible venues affected by COVID-19. Eligible applicants may qualify for grants equal to 45% of their gross earned revenue, with the maximum amount available for a single grant award of $10 million. $2 billion is reserved for eligible applications with up to 50 full-time employees. Commercial District Recovery Safety Plan – The Mayor's Office of Recovery, SBS, and the Office of Nightlife have launched a new localized, multi-agency, coordinated approach to address safety and quality of life issues in the City’s business districts to aid in recovery. The Commercial District Recovery Safety Plan (CDRSP) will center on BIDs’ expertise in providing local knowledge and problem spotting and will bring together all relevant City agencies in the same room.
Pandemic Small Business Recovery Grant- is a New York State program providing grant funding to small businesses, micro-businesses, for-profit independent arts, and cultural organizations. The grants will be flexible and can be used for a number of different business operating expenses, including payroll, rent or mortgage payments, taxes, utilities, PPE or other business expenses incurred between March 1, 2020 and April 1, 2021.
