Dear LIC Community,
This is a truly challenging time in our history. LIC is a vibrant, diverse community that we are incredibly proud to work with and represent. We stand in solidarity with everyone exercising our collective and individual right to peacefully gather to make your voice heard. We will continue to share information on upcoming gatherings on our social media channels. We also want to provide you information on other ways that you can make an impact, especially in our local community:
- Support our many great local organizations working for social justice and equity in our neighborhood and our city, including: Hour Children, Urban Upbound, Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement, 696 Builds Queensbridge, NYC Kids RISE, Variety Boys and Girls Club, LIC Astoria NAACP, Sunnyside Community Services, the Fortune Society and Zone 126. Please click here for a page of links to these organizations to learn more and see how you can help.
- Support our local LIC Businesses, especially now and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Queens Eats has also shared a list of Black-owned businesses in Queens to support. Click here to access the list.
- Voting in every election is a powerful way to shape our community, city and country, including the upcoming State and Federal Primary on June 23rd. Visit the NYC Board of Elections to see more details, apply for an absentee ballot and learn about early voting locations.
- Finally, fill out the 2020 Census. This will impact our community for the next 10 years. So far, Queens County has a 51% response rate. Let’s get everyone counted so we can have the level of representation we deserve on every level of government, and our fair share of funding for vital programs. Click here to #GetCountedNYC.
We hope that everyone continues to remain safe and supportive of each other in our community through this tough time. We know our LIC community is strong and, together, we will come ‘back’ even stronger.
Sincerely,
The Long Island City Partnership
