Halloween in LIC Recap

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Halloween with us. With Halloween falling on a Thursday, our team had the opportunity to engage with the community twice - once at the Halloween in LIC march on Saturday, October 26, in partnership with Manducatis Rustica, P.S./I.S. 78Q, and Hunters Point Park Conservancy, and again at our own trick-or-treating pop-up on Halloween day. At our event, revelers had a blast taking photos at Velvet Turtle Events' Halloween-themed photo booth.

Additionally, we helped guide the community through the neighborhood with trick-or-treating signs displayed at 95+ local businesses that linked back to our map - which received over 8,000 views! Were you in LIC this Halloween? If so, tag us on Instagram @licqns to share your spooky moments. Check out some fun photos we captured here. Thank you to the businesses, organizations, and community members who made this Halloween extra special with events, promotions, candy, and more.

Legends of LIC - "The Last Ferry"

By Bob Singleton, executive director, Greater Astoria Historical Society

"The access accorded by the Hunter’s Point Ferry was perhaps the greatest factor converting Hunters Point farmland into urban Long Island City, but with the previous decade’s arrival of traffic through Manhattan subway and the rail tunnels the ferry was fated to pass into history. Although the city vowed to fight – until the very end – to keep the service, everyone knew that a Long Island City transportation institution, antedating the Civil War, was fated to soon go out of existence."
