Member Spotlight
Ronald Overton

Ronald Overton joined LIFT Wellness Center in February of 2013. Ronald’s fitness journey didn’t start here but started 45 years ago when he was 18 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Shortly after his dad suffered a massive heart attack and passed away at the young age of 52. Ronald vowed from then on that he would live his life to the fittest for his family first and second for himself. Thirdly, he would make a daily mission to recruit as many people as possible to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

While here at LIFT, Ronald has done just that. You can find Ronald encouraging others he sees on the fitness floor. He shares that many fellow members keep him motivated because they see him as an inspiration doing what he does at his age. He has seen benefits such as weight loss but says besides the physical, it mentally makes his days better by working out at LIFT.

He shares that he has worked out in many different facilities but “I’ll have to say that LIFT is my favorite. They have not only modern equipment but friendly staff and a clean facility. LIFT has an overall healthy lifestyle atmosphere.”

LIFT Wellness salutes Ronald and all veterans that have sacrificed everything for this great country. Thank you Ronald for your support of LIFT Wellness Center!

Janet Hedwall

If you know anything about baseball, you will know the importance of having a utility player on the team. A utility player can play any position and does what is best for the team. – Janet Hedwall has been just that.

Janet started working for us LIFT Wellness in March of this year as a pool tech. Although it has been a few years since her last pool job, she has experience working around pools and teaching swim lessons. She has recently received her swim instructor certification and is currently taking on new clients. She also is working on a certification to teach Group Fitness classes in the pool. Not only does she bring maturity and experience to the pool area, Janet brings a calming aura to anyone she works or communicates with.

We are excited to see what else Janet can bring to the table for LIFT Wellness Center.

Members, we will have RIFA bins if you wish to donate as well! Help us, help the kids in need!

Your first class is always FREE, come try us out!

CrossFit LWC Success
Capri Anderson

I am Capri Anderson and I joined CFLWC in October 2020. It took me a few invitations from a friend before I finally gave in and gave it a try. I was a little nervous because I had not exercised consistently in a very long time. What I love that I've gained so far is confidence in myself, more energy throughout the day, and a big sense of accomplishment. These workouts are hard but good hard.

I'll be honest, I was a little intimidated thinking about doing a "Crossfit" class. It only took me a couple of classes and I was hooked. Blake and Chelsea are phenomenal at coaching everyone from entry-level, like I was, to experienced athletes. One more thing I love is the encouragement from the other members. We are always cheering each other on and want to see everyone become better versions of themselves. We are like one big family.

Adequate hydration can be a simple way to increase your health, performance, and overall quality of life. That’s right! If you are training to be faster, stronger, or to go further, you need to be properly hydrated. The trouble is, what does that actually mean? I’ve heard people say they need “8 glasses a day” or, more recently, up to a gallon. The trouble with these blanket recommendations is that everyone’s hydration needs are different every day. Studies have also shown that relying on your thirst signals, or “just drinking when you are thirsty,” can also cause you to fall short on fluid intake.

Potentially the best way to monitor your hydration status at home or on the go is to monitor your urine color. Ideally, you should look for a very pale, clear yellow, but not completely colorless. If you still have questions, it may be best to speak with your doctor or a registered dietitian to ensure you are properly meeting your hydration needs. If you are looking to increase your fluid intake or struggle with drinking plain water, try some of these tips to increase your hydration!

Experiment with your beverages- drinking iced coffee or adding water (or carbonated water) to juice or tea can increase your water intake without having to really taste the water. Add berries, cucumber, mint, lemon, or rosemary to your water and let them sit in a pitcher. The longer it sits the more flavor they give you. You can also freeze juice or lemonade in an ice cube tray and add it to a glass of water.

Alternate your beverages- if you drink multiple cups of coffee or sodas a day, you may want to alternate between that drink and water. This may also reduce your coffee or soda intake!
Water may be best, but it’s not the only way- the water content of some foods can be pretty high, so if water isn’t your favorite, focusing on watermelon, zucchini, cucumber or grapefruit can increase your fluid intake.

How you drink matters- choosing a water bottle or cup that makes you happy or one that helps keep track of your progress can increase your water intake. For many people, straws also increase fluid intake. No matter how fancy the water bottle it won’t do any good if it’s not with you, so keep it close!
Routine- it can be helpful to attach drinking fluids with certain activities such as drinking a glass when you first wake up, when you are driving, or right before a meal.

Make popsicles- homemade popsicles made from juice, fruit, water, and more are a great, summer-friendly way to increase those fluids! Check out our recipe for this month for a simple and tasty recipe!
Strawberry Lime Popsicles

Ingredients/supplies

  • Strawberries
  • Water (you can try flavored carbonated water too)
  • Juice from limes
  • Blender
  • Popsicle molds (if you do not have these, pour into small paper cups and cover with aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Poke a hole in the foil or plastic wrap and insert a popsicle stick)
  • **Optional: Sugar- if using, add in with strawberries and lime juice in blender.

Instructions

  • Put strawberries and lime juice in a blender and blend until smooth.

  • Pour this mixture into the popsicle mold.

  • Pour additional lime juice and water over the pureed strawberries in the mold until about ¾ full.
  • Insert the popsicle sticks and place in the freezer. Popsicles should be frozen in 2-3 hours. Enjoy!
