10 Tips For Eating Better This National Nutrition Month

Happy National Nutrition Month! National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign sponsored annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This month highlights the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

Developing and maintaining these healthy habits doesn’t have to be a complete 180 from your current routine. Small, consistent changes are easier to maintain for a longer period of time, so they tend to be more successful. Here are some ideas of simple changes to help get you started!

-slow down when eating

-incorporate a fruit or vegetable at each meal

-eat meals at the table, not at your desk or couch

-choose whole grains at least once per day

-focus on baked or grilled foods instead of fried

-make food at home

-start reading nutrition labels

-eat consistently throughout the day

-wait until after breakfast to have your caffeine

-make changes slowly and build on your success!

This month, LIFT Wellness is celebrating National Nutrition Month in a few ways. Stop by the table under the whiteboard by childcare each week to pick up a tip sheet, a recipe, and to learn about a featured food item of the week. You can also join us for two events this month!

Tuesday March 5th “Taste the Colors” Lunch and Learn.

Saturday March 23rd Mini Mindfulness Retreat featuring yoga, relaxation, and mindful eating.

We so look forward to celebrating this month with you as we focus and improve our eating and activity habits!

Group Exercise Testimonial: Pat Little

“Since I joined the S.A.I.L class, not only has my balance and strength greatly improved but my emotional and social well-being has too. I made the decision in 2021 at the age of 76 to join LIFT and the S.A.I.L class and haven't looked back. Thanks to Group Exercise, I have discovered a new beginning on how to celebrate my senior years with confidence! My overall health is amazing proof that the program works.”

Thank you LIFT Wellness and Group Exercise!

Trainer: Megan Hedwall

Client: Elysia Cecchetti

“After a challenging pregnancy, I decided to work with a personal trainer to regain strength and mobility. Megan took great care in ensuring I was on the correct and safe path to rebuilding muscle strength.

I continued to work with Megan throughout my second pregnancy this past summer. She went beyond our training sessions to research safe prenatal workouts and always aligned them with my doctor’s recommendations.

I could maintain working out throughout my pregnancy because of the foundations I built training with Megan. It also allowed me to be a stronger and more capable toddler and newborn parent. I was able to start back at the gym where we left off, setting more significant goals during my postpartum recovery.

Months later, I am currently training for a half marathon. Megan has again gone beyond her scope of work to support my goals and help guide and motivate me through my training process.”
