- 9 oz. package frozen spinach, cooked and drained
- 1 Dash nutmeg

WHY FAST WEIGHT LOSS WORKS
HMR programs help individuals achieve fast weight loss in a livable way by encouraging people to eat more and stay satisfied, which makes it easier to stick to the program in the short-term, and over the long haul.
According to LIFT Weight Managment and LIFT Wellness Center Director, Miki Martin, "Losing weight quickly is incredibly motivating. It can help people stick with their diet longer, which is especially important if you have a lot of weight to lose. Many of our clients have 30, 40, even 100 or more pounds to lose, so fast weight loss is important to keep up momentum." Miki also adds, " It's a common misconception that fast weight loss isn't healthy or sustainable, and that it will lead to weight regain. That is simply not true. Studies have shown that following a lifestyle- change program that promotes fast initial weight loss is associated with better long-term success.
HMR focuses on three skill areas critical for weight-loss and weight maintenance:
- How to make healthier food choices
- How to eat more fruits and vegetables
- How to increase physical activity
Research has shown that practicing these skills may also help reduce the risk factors for the development of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, some types of cancer, and other chronic diseases.

The first day of school is quickly approaching, and though it may look different than previous years it is still a time to look forward to. While some schools are going back to the classroom and others are staying virtual, planning for lunchtime is as important (and stressful) as ever. One way to ensure your child will eat and enjoy their lunch is to give them some freedom in choosing it. Now that may look different for each child and age group, but one way you can do this is by using containers in your fridge to sort out each of the five food groups, then have them choose at least one food item from each container. By offering a couple different choices in each container, you child has the freedom to choose the food they eat, but also ensures they have a balanced meal available to them. Here are some food items you could include in each container!
Protein: hard boiled eggs, nuts, or deli meat slices
Fruit: apple slices, orange slices, grapes, berries, watermelon chunks, raisins
Veggies: celery, carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, diced bell pepper
Dairy: cheese stick or slices, small milk cartons, single serve yogurt containers
Grains: crackers, pretzels, whole grain goldfish, pasta salad, bread
Now that we’ve tackled lunch, here’s a great weeknight dinner recipe for when the prep time is short and the patience is shorter!
Chicken Hummus Naan Wraps
Ingredients:
- Naan bread (1-2 mini naan per person, or cut the large naan in half)
- Your preferred hummus flavor (I used roasted red pepper hummus)
- Spring mix
- Shredded chicken (this can be canned, from a rotisserie chicken, or leftovers)
- Feta or goat cheese
- Cucumber (1)
- Cherry tomatoes (1 cup)
- Red onion (about ½)
- Red Wine Vinaigrette (as desired)
1) Toast the naan bread in the oven, on a skillet, or in a toaster.
2) Cut the cucumber, tomato, and onion and add to a bowl. Add the vinaigrette and mix until they are well coated.
3) Place the naan on a plate with the flat side up. Spread the hummus evenly on the naan, then add the spring mix to one half and the shredded chicken to the other half.
4) Add the vegetable mixture and top with cheese. You can add salt, pepper, and/or additional dressing as desired. Serve immediately, either flat or folded like a taco. You may want to use a toothpick or food-safe twine to secure the naan in a taco shape.
