"Making" disciples

This past Sunday morning, some of our wonderfully inquisitive and curious children and families lovingly created paper bag disciples. Following the story in the Gospel of John about Jesus' first encounter with two disciples (Simon, renamed Peter, and Andrew), participants learned about how we are all disciples and that Jesus calls each of us to serve him!

In the sweet picture to the left, you'll see Deacon Carol and Phin Hugghins, a regular LIFT-goer and Chorister, posing with their disciple puppets. Phin modeled her disciple puppet after Deacon Carol; look closely and you'll even see that Phin's puppet is wearing a diaconal stole!

When I asked each participant to tell me about his/her puppet, responses varied from, "This puppet is me and I'm getting ready to follow Jesus!" to "Disciples are Jesus' friends, and I want Jesus to be my friend, too."

Thank you to the wonderful artists and disciples who came on Sunday! Join us each week at LIFT for engaging, heartfelt, and fun moments of faithfulness, exploration, and prayer.

Break out the lederhosen and schnitzel, and join us for St. Martin's Sunday Family Movie Night: The Sound of Music Sing-A-Long! We will gather on Sunday, Jan. 22, from 4-7pm for fellowship and a screening of The Sound of Music. We invite all to wear costumes. Bring a comfy blanket or chair and cozy up for a wonderful evening of song and community.

Please bring a side dish, salad, beverage, or dessert to share. Register by clicking here. For more information, please contact Minister for Children, Youth & Families, Anne Alexis Harra.

Let us pray...

Prayer for the Second Sunday after the Epiphany
Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
