The question is often asked, how does LCIF distribute the monies that we as individual Lions and clubs donate to it. In the weeks to come, we will be highlighting the many ways those funds are used to make a difference in the lives of individuals, communities, and yes, sometimes we even impact the world.

Tornado Destruction in Mississippi and Alabama

By now, we have all heard of the death and destruction brought about in

Mississippi and Alabama from the recent tornados that struck that area. LCIF immediately responded sending to the Lions in that area a Major Catastrophe Grant in the amount of $50,000 and an additional emergency grant in the amount of $10,000 to help meet immediate needs. That is just one way that Lions step up to help when the need is there.

In Our Return to Santa Ana 333 People Were Served!

Sponsored by

Santa Ana Host Lions Club

OC Central Lions Club

Tustin Host Lions Club

Santa Ana Unified School District

This return demonstrates just how much can be accomplished when community organizations and eyecare professionals partner with area Lions Clubs to serve people who can’t afford vision screening services and eyeglasses.

Club membership was mobilized with a plan that reached out to the most vulnerable in their communities. OC Central Lions Club Chairperson, Dennis Tortora, noted that the clubs cast a wide net reaching out to several diverse community groups with bilingual communications, to spread awareness of the event including:

  • Churches (Catholic, Methodist, Episcopalian, & Presbyterian)
  • Sikh Center
  • Laundromats
  • Senior Centers
  • 211 Orange County (Social Services Organization)
  • Isiah House (Shelter for Abused)
  • Food Banks
  • Homeless Centers
  • Santa Ana Unified School District (Digital for in class TV and printed flyers)
  • Tustin Unified School District (Digital for in class TV and printed flyers)

In addition to this, the schools sent flyers home to parents electronically and distributed print copies. The results were a resounding success!

A total of 16 optometrists and opticians gave up a day in their practice to volunteer in Santa Ana. All this, plus 75 mostly Lions volunteers representing 17 different clubs, made it possible to serve 333 people in one day.

As the word of our service spreads, more Lions are coming forward with a desire to participate. At this event we had 15 Seal Beach Lions sign-up for training with a 100% positive engagement and interest in doing more.

Ronald McDonald House

HOW YOUR CLUB CAN HELP RONALD MC DONALD HOUSE

The House is still under construction (and currently housing families in a hotel) but there are still opportunities to support the house.

They are in need of many items including gift cards to offer to the families. Please see the attached Wish List.

They are also looking for clubs to fill snack bags for the families to offer convenient items to snack on while they are in the hotel. Please see the attached Snack Bag Flyer.

There is also the opportunity for clubs to bring a family style, catered meal to the hotel on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays.

And you can keep collecting your pull tabs. The House is not currently accepting pull tabs so please hold on to them for now. Or they may also be donated to another House location.

EZSR

EZ Service Report for 4L4

We are excited to roll out our NEW and EASY way that ANYONE can report service projects in your clubs! The new tool is called EZSR which means Easy Service Reports. Any Lion can go

to the EZSR link and report the service project details including name, date and number of people and hours served. Any projects reported to EZSR will be credited directly to your club,

no need for your club Secretary or Administrator to report to MyLion, it’s already done! Please share the link and scan code to all of your club service project chairs and members to ensure

your service gets COUNTED! We will share printed promotional items at our first District meeting on August 6 so you can promote this new tool! Let’s work together to meet our district
