Hello Lions,
In my reflections over the past few days thinking about this moment when I will need to put these words on paper, your feeling is that you have never done enough. What I do know is that I am incredibly grateful for all Lions in this district for affording me the opportunity to serve as a leader of the district.
Over these past three years I have gone through copious amounts of training, and this has made me a better lion. In transitioning to the club level I have thoughts on how to help my club and others which I will work on with the clubs that ask for help. It is my belief that we must work together to build this district as we are a team. We all have great ideas, but when we bring them to each other we can further build a better experience for all Lions.
Please feel free to share your thoughts with others as a team works better together. This is not a goodbye letter, what I will be doing is viewing from a different angle how we can work together in helping each other to grow in lionism.
I am looking forward to being back out at many events once again as the foot is closer to being completely healed. I still have a role at the Multiple District as I will be working with the Accessibility committee to ensure that all Lions will be able to read via email or electronic media events that are both sponsored by the Multiple and even the districts. This committee is here to ensure that there is inclusion for all Lions. We are even trying to ensure that LCI is compliant with accessibility as well.
Next, I would be remised if I didn’t give a special shout out to the
Cabinet members who made the job of District governor easier. First thanks to the 1st and 2nd Vice Governors Roger and Marianne. Both of whom took on certain tasks this year. Next, the Global Action Team (GAT) team which included PDG Lion Mark Piva, Lion Scott Newton, PCC Lion Craig Durand and Lion Kurt Bensworth. This is followed up with my amazing Zone Chairs who did everything that I asked them. Lion
Jeff Campana for Zone A, Lion Kari Schlagheck for Zone B, Lion Cat Badame for Zone C and anchoring us with Zone D Lion Brian Quan. These Lions held their zone meetings and turned in their paperwork and met with the clubs in their respective zones, again I am very grateful.
The Immediate Past District Governor Drew was there for any questions, I am very thankful for this feat. When you step up to this level it is like
you are standing on a mountain top and are wondering where to go next. Thanks Lion Drew for being there when called upon.
All the Committee members are all extremely important as well. All of you kept your respective committees running well and did not need any guidance. We had environmental projects with Lion Nikki, Women & Family with Lion Lynda, Pediatric Cancer Fundraiser with Lion Vicky, Military Bags with Lion Kevin, City of Hope with Lion Lorna, wonderful photos with Lion Loyce and PDG John along with Facebook posts. We grew and added Instagram thanks to Lion Alexandria. Lions Mike & Debby kept us posted on Special Olympics and a great hunger project with Lion Steve. We had our nominations chair Lion Cheryl who followed all the rules. A thank you to PCC David and Mandy for a wonderful convention. I am so proud of how far our PJ Program has come and the wonderful things clubs do with the PJ's. PDG John kept us informed on California Lions Foundation grants, I signed many grants for out clubs! Thank you Lion Carol Linehan for again being our Student Speaker Trustee and helping to raise funds for these important scholarships! Lion Jennifer ran a wonderful Peace Poster contest for the district. Lion Liz kept us well informed on Ronald McDonald House and we served at their Trunk or Treat! Lion Anne helped promoted reading action program and PCC David ran a successful District Student Speaker Contest. A thank you to Lion Cathy for her help with Vision and VSP and Lion Carmen for California Lions Friends in Sight! Also a shout out to PDG PJ for the convention golf and to Lion Teri for all your help with convention raffle baskets along with many other things!
Thank you to Seal Beach Lions for stepping up to fill Lion Mary's shoes and running the district hospitality suite and for serving us a yummy breakfast.
Our LCIF Chair Lion Steve Lacey was outstanding with the funds we received this Lions year I believe we far surpassed our goals, and I look forward to seeing what our year end totals are.
By no means, no one can forget Lion Dr. Cindee Quan, This Lion is an amazing person as she has taken on the district Leos over the past six years or so. Lion Cindee tirelessly gives her time for all our Leos. She preps them to be district officers and teaches them how to run meetings and directs all the students on her different committees. She also gives her time on the Leo’s outings as well as being her clubs president. I thank her for her due diligence with both the students and her club.
Thank you to our District Chaplain PDG Judy who led us with her touching prayers and an amazing memorial service at convention. Thank you to our associate Chaplain Lion Mike for your touching words.
A huge huge thank you to Huntington Beach Host Lions who supported me in many ways for my 3 years and stepped up to cook at two of our district meetings this year. I could not have done this without the support, backing and friendship of this amazing club!
Lastly, A big shout out to my spouse Lion Diane who took on the biggest of all tasks for the past three years of being both the Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Treasurer as well as newsletter editor and many other tasks. She is someone who never really says “NO” I cannot begin to express the gratitude that I have for her in this letter. I have given her the biggest award, which is my entire heart as there is no Lions Club award any bigger that I could give her.
Again, a giant Lions Shout out to all of you who gave me this wonderful experience.
Your Humbled Servant Leader
District Governor Lion Scotty and Irish
