Community Response Efforts
We continue to be in awe of the generosity of our community members. To date, we have raised more than $335,000 for the COVID-19 Community Response Fund and of that amount raised, we distributed $125,000 in the first two rounds with another $71,000 being distributed this week for our third deployment. Our partnership with the Athens Area Community Foundation on this fund continues to remind us why collaborations and working together are best for our region. We are honored to continue serving area nonprofits who are meeting the needs of our neighbors in the midst of this crisis, as well as continuing to support our United Way of Northeast Georgia partner agencies as normal. The future may look hazy, but what is true is that Northeast Georgia thrives when we work together. We are looking forward and, with your help, we will continue supporting nonprofits throughout this year and in 2021, will grant funds to programs that help meet basic needs, impact early childhood success, and provide workforce development opportunities.
Partner Spotlight:
Healthcare in the Neighborhood
Each and every day, our healthcare workers are ensuring our health and that of our friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. For many of our neighbors though, healthcare comes at a high price - monetarily - and with high risk. The uninsured, under-insured and under-served in our region often face a hard decision when they need medical attention. The Athens Neighborhood Health Center (ANHC), the only federally qualified health center in Clarke County, provides affordable primary healthcare and pharmacy services, focusing on these under-served individuals.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has had a drastic effect on our community, and ANHC continues to give back everything possible to the patients who are the foundation of the health center. ANHC is grateful for the opportunity to continue our mission and will continue to accommodate the community’s changing needs during and after this pandemic."

ANHC has met the pandemic with every focus on safety and patient services, offering TeleHealth visits, curbside triage, and pharmacy curbside delivery just to name a few. So far, ANHC has participated in multiple drive-thru COVID-19 testing centers and is in the process of planning more. The first was in collaboration with the Department of Public Health and Clarke County School District and the second was hosted by ANHC. These efforts have been a huge success, and have been offered with no out-of-pocket costs for existing patients as well as other residents. Thank you to this system of incredible healthcare workers for providing much-needed care for our area residents.
School's Out for the Summer: Now What?
As summer kicks off, a number of our partner agencies are providing adjusted summer programs. Check out our new Summer Camps tab on our website to see what organizations are hosting summer camps, or reach out to us directly if you have any questions. Additionally, we are routinely updating our partner resources page for new information and programs.
With school out for the summer, many local students are facing more than just a summer slump in their education; they are facing a summer slump in food access. Thankfully because of county and city school systems, meals are still being distributed. Reach out to your local school system to see updated summer hours for food distributions for students and their families each week.
