Dr. Dimmick is the author of Sea of Mud: The Retreat of the Mexican Army After San Jacinto, an Archaeological Investigation. He will give a talk about his work titled "Archaeological Studies at the San Jacinto Battleground."
Come lunch and learn with us THIS THURSDAY at 12 PM at the museum!
Admission is $5 for non-members and free for members. Lunch orders are open until the end of the day today, but feel free to bring your own lunch if you'd like!

This Weekend: Texas Flag Retirement Ceremony | |

On February 19, 1846, Anson Jones raised the American flag on Texas soil for the first time and declared that the Republic of Texas was no more. For Texas Statehood Day, we are hosting an official Texas Flag retirement ceremony.
Thanks to the Brazoria Historical Militia, Daughters of the Republic of Texas (Cradle of Texas Chapter), and the Sons of the Republic of Texas (Stephen F. Austin Chapter) for their participation.
Do you have a Texas or American flag that needs to be retired? Bring it to the Lake Jackson Historical Museum and we will take it to the appropriate retirement ceremony.

Celebrating Black History Month 2023 | |
Black History of Lake Jackson
Black History of Lake Jackson is now open & on view until March 4th! This special pop-up display highlights how African Americans have shaped Lake Jackson history from the antebellum era through present day.
The display also recognizes three Hometown History Makers: local residents who have made historic strides in their own right. We are honored to shed light on the pioneering stories of the Davis family, Sharon Barnes, and Jon "J.B." Baker.
Tune into our social media every Wednesday this month for a post highlighting each of these Hometown History Makers!
Black History of Lake Jackson will be on display on the first floor of the Lake Jackson Historical Museum, located at 249 Circle Way, Lake Jackson, TX, during regular museum hours from Tuesday, Feb. 7th, through Saturday, March 4th. Admission by donation.

Lake Jackson Historical Museum
To complement our Black History of Lake Jackson display (on view Feb. 7th - Mar. 4th), we invite the public to Remembering Resistance, an oral history program dedicated to remembering what racial segregation was like and how our communities resisted racism over time. Come to engage in discourse about the history of segregation, integration, and the fight for racial equality in Lake Jackson and Brazosport. Museum staff will facilitate memory sharing among speakers and audience members.

StoryWalk® Collaboration with Lake Jackson Library | |

Visit MacLean Park to experience StoryWalk®, a new initiative from Lake Jackson Library designed to get you moving, reading, and learning! The Lake Jackson Historical Association is proud to sponsor the StoryWalk® book for March 2023: Sing With Me: The Story of Selena Quintanilla by Diana Lopez and illustrated by Teresa Martinez. This book tells the inspirational story of Selena Quintanilla, the Queen of Tejano Music, a story which began here in Lake Jackson. Spanish translations will be available, and don't forget to do the interactive activities that accompany each page!

Did you know that the Lake Jackson Historical Museum is available to rent for private events?
The museum is a unique and exciting place to have your event! We can welcome up to 200 people in our two-story museum space.
Rates:
$100 per hour
$150 per hour if your event requires us to close the museum to the public during our regular hours (Tuesday - Saturday, 10 pm - 4 pm)
All events must be booked for a minimum of 4 hours, including clean up and tear down.

Jackson Plantation Historic Site Open

Founded in the 1840s, the Jackson Plantation was the second of three plantations developed by Abner Jackson. Originally known as "Lake Place," the site was once a bustling sugar plantation that stretched over 4,642 acres with more than 80 enslaved workers.
