December Newsletter
President's Message

It’s hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is just a few days away. Many of you are traveling and others are spending the holiday at home with family and friends or just enjoying a quiet day. For me the holiday is a time to relax and reflect on how lucky we are to live on this beautiful island.  Whatever your plans are, please enjoy the day.

You can sense the hustle and bustle building on the island as everyone gears up for the December Holidays. The season is full of parties and get togethers, but also a time to reflect on how much we have to be thankful for and a time to give back to others less fortunate.

We hope you’ll take the time to ring in December with Landlovers at our many events.
  • It begins with the festive Holiday Cart Parade on Sunday, December, 4.  Don’t forget to bring an unwrapped toy for Santa’s Sleigh benefitting the Marines Toys for Tots.
  • Continuing with the theme of giving, Landlovers is again ringing for the Salvation Army beginning on Tuesday, November 29. Please donate an hour of your time to ring. Sign up information below in the newsletter.
  • Tuesday, December 6 is our first ever Holiday Campfire Party at the newly renovated Skidaway Island State Park Group Activities Building. Kathy Collura and Milli Sample have planned a holiday event unlike any we’ve hosted before. If you haven’t been to a party planned by this duo, you should know we’re in for a special evening. Don’t miss it – click here to sign up.
  • Trolley to the Arts is taking us to the beloved “A Christmas Tradition” show at the Savannah Theater on December 15.
  • Cocktails with Friends gathers in members’ homes on Saturday, December 17 for a relaxed evening.

Continue reading the newsletter or visit our website for more information about these events and all the other activities taking place in December.

Landlovers is thankful for all our corporate sponsors and individual donors. Your generosity has helped us issue over $1.7 million for grants and scholarships benefitting Skidaway Island.

Thanks to all of you who volunteer your time:
·      Our Officers, Directors, and Committee Chairs
·      Our Activity Directors who keep us entertained
·      Our Fundraising Chairs and the hundreds of people who volunteer at our fundraisers

To our members, you are the best! We appreciate your enthusiasm, generosity, and participation.

Wishing everyone a joyous Thanksgiving.

Chris Lanigan

Once a sleepy sister to its European neighbors, Portugal is on everyone’s travel list and for good reason. Its cuisine mixes Atlantic and Mediterranean influences to produce food that is both simple and complex.

And from the Algarve in the south to the Douro River in the north, Portugal’s wine regions are among the oldest in the world and are finally garnering the international recognition they deserve.

Watch for the registration link in next month’s newsletter- the event is capped at 120 participants. You must be a Landlovers member to attend, but club membership is not required.

Are You Interested In These Offerings?

We are trying to gauge interest in these potential opportunities. Please reach out to Eileen Yost at eileenyrn@gmail.com if interested in either one of these.

  • New LL singing group
  • Do you love to sing and harmonize in a group with other singers? Landlovers invites you to be part of a new, co-ed singing group. We hope to attract a small group of singers who share a love of a cappela singing to create a unique sound in 4 part vocal harmony. We would sing arrangements from classic American hits to contemporary pop tunes to bring the joy of singing to our local audiences.

  • New Caregiver Support Group
  • Caregivers need care too! This support group would look to provide some time away, fellowship, speakers and an outlet to help one another problem solve and share ideas.
