Landlovers Foundation awards $133,799 in Grants, Scholarships, and Merit Awards!
Wow! It is exciting and rewarding to report that this year The Landlovers Foundation awarded $133,799, a record amount of money in Grants, Scholarships, and Community Service Merit awards. Giving back to our community is important to us. The LL Foundation Scholarship Fund is designed to assist Landings Association and Landings Company employees and dependent family members with expenses for post-high-school education. Our Community Service Merit award recognizes high school juniors and seniors of Landings residents who go “above and beyond” in giving time and talent through community service. Grants are awarded to non-profit organizations for projects and services that benefit the lives of Skidaway Residents. This year we awarded 5 scholarships, 1 Community Service Merit Award Highest Honor, and 14 Grants.

Thanks to all who volunteered at our fundraisers, our fundraising chairs, our donors and sponsors, and the Landlovers Board for your time, energy and generous support. Without you, this would not have been possible.

Our recipients were honored at our annual awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 16, at Palmetto Ballroom. Awardees spoke about the importance of their grant and how the funds would be used. The Scholarship and Merit recipients stole the show with their enthusiasm, poise, and hopes for their futures. Despite what is often reported, there are amazing kids out there! A video of the event along with detailed descriptions of all awardees will be posted shortly on our website. It was truly a memorable evening.

It’s hard to believe my year as President is ending. All I can say is THANK YOU! First of all, to the Board who enthusiastically gave their time and energy to the organization and made my role easy. Tim Forbes, VP, could not have been a better partner and I appreciate his wise council throughout the year and his tireless work on the Flea Market and the Salvation Army Bell Ringing schedule. He will be a fabulous leader next year! Don Wurzel and Steve Voss, our Treasury Team worked together seamlessly and I have enjoyed getting to know them better. Deb Werner as Secretary efficiently kept us organized and on track. Vicki Knapp, Membership Director, presided over a record membership year – 873 households or 1,483 individual members - our biggest year ever. Betsey Andersen, Development Director, initiated a new individual donor program as well as worked to secure our corporate sponsorships and set a new record for donations and sponsorships. Jane Golz and Laurie Etherington, Ways and Means Directors, tirelessly worked to support our fund-raising chairs and put together a new “Executive Team” to manage our Flea Market. Activities Directors, Eileen Yost and Judy Faraklas, managed our Activity Chairs and introduced our first Couples Golf Scramble. Social Directors, Milli Sample and Kathy Collura, creatively reimagined our social events. Julia Harrell, Communications Director, jumped right in and made sure that Landlovers events were well publicized in all outside publications. Tina Dorward and Pam McCloskey, Internal Communications Directors, tag teamed to produce our monthly newsletters and Eblasts. Behind the scenes, Kenna Kinsey worked to keep our website updated and John Ufford managed our Event Smart sign-up system. Maryce Cunningham chaired the Scholarship Committee who interviewed all our Scholarship and Merit applicants. Thanks as well to the over 30 Activity Chairs who organized activities for all of us to enjoy. New Activities this year included the very popular Shall We Dance and Trolley to the Arts events and a Walking Group.

To you, our members. Thank you for your generous support throughout the year. I appreciated your suggestions, kind words, and participation in our events, activities, and as volunteers at our fundraisers. It has been my pleasure and privilege to serve as your President this this past year.

Happy Summer!

Chris Lanigan
