We did it! Following more than two years of work and a lot of help from our friends, LLT has completed the purchase of the 105-acre Putnam property. This forested parcel has been combined with other LLT properties to form the 162-acre Vincent Blakely Forest Preserve which is in the center of a larger 704 core forest region. The connected preservation lands provide a corridor for wildlife and allow us to build trails that will create over 5 miles interconnected public access hiking. LLT is grateful for the financial support from Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection’s Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition (OSWA) Grant Program, Connecticut Land Conservation Council’s Land Easement and Acquisition Program (LEAP), Seherr-Thoss Foundations, and our dedicated supporters that have help to preserve this strategic forest in perpetuity.
Volunteer Spotlight
A big thanks to the Housatonic Valley Association for sharing their enthusiastic college interns for a major trail renovation work party. This group along with a half dozen regular volunteers installed four stone and several log water bars to reduce erosion on the Dallett Hoopes trail in the Prospect Mountain Preserve. They also assessed and improved trail markers and signage, addressed safety concerns, cleared downed trees, removed invasive plants, repaired vandalism, and cleaned-up litter. Arethusa ice cream cones were a well-earned after-work treat!
