First Signs of Spring

New England's winter loosens its grip on our landscape. Ice slowly drips into water. Water rises through the trees, percolates through the soil and fills the streams. The warm, newly exposed forest floor welcomes the spring ephemeral wildflowers providing pollen to insects. It feels like the landscape is finally exhaling. – John Markelon

Volunteer Spotlight

Volunteers stepping up and getting things done! Dozens of folks signed up to participate in four new LLT initiatives that include:

  • Watershed Evaluation Team (WET) that will assess and map important riparian regions in Litchfield
  • Stone Wall Historians who plan to map stone walls in six LLT forest preserves, research their history, and share their stories.
  • Invasive Plants Managers that will map invasive plants and coordinate eradication efforts.
  • Hiking Trail Maintainers will monitor and maintain hiking trails on LLT’s seven preserves with public access trails.

Watershed Coalition - Sign the Pledge

Want to make a difference in protecting our watershed? Join Litchfield Land Trust and other collaborating Bantam Watershed Coalition organizations and take the watershed protection pledge.
