Welcome to our new President, Marcia Fowler!

Seen here is John Markelon accepting the gift of the Graham Thompson hiking stick from past LLT President John Fulkerson and embracing incoming President Marcia Fowler. This stick was a gift from LLT’s first President, Graham Thompson to John Fulkerson.

John Markelon, lifetime lover of the land, long distance through hiker, inspiring educator, passionate propagator of local native plants, ardent volunteer, and loving family man, has passed the baton (or hiking stick) as President of the Litchfield Land Trust.

John joined LLT Board of Directors in 2012 and has served as President since 2020. He helped guide the organization through challenging times and ushered in a period of outstanding growth and development for Litchfield Land Trust. During John’s tenure as President, LLT navigated the covid crises, hired new part time staff, expanded strategic preserved land holdings, adopted new technologies, improved record keeping, communication, and fund raising, renovated a historic train station and turned it into our office and a hub for other not-for-profit organizations, and completed the hard work to achieve national accreditation.

John, the staff, and the entire board of directors are thrilled to introduce Marcia Fowler, as the new Litchfield Land Trust President. Marcia joined the board in 2017 and has served as Secretary and Acquisition Chair for five years. Marcia is talented, resolute, and passionate about the preservation of strategic forests and farmland. The Litchfield Land Trust continues to be in wonderful hands.
