The Fall 2017 semester is winding down and your long-awaited, well-earned winter break is near!  You've made it through to finals through grit, determination, caffeine, questionable snacks, and hopefully with a little help from your family, friends, and all of us at Los Medanos College.

We All Need a Little Help Sometimes 
As students, many of you already know how valuable Student Services can be. But, for those who aren't aware, take a look at the list of Student Support Services hours, locations, and contacts that are available at both the Pittsburg Campus and the Brentwood Center.

From Admissions & Records to Welcome Services and everything in between, LMC has support resources you need. Start the new year and the Spring semester off right, by getting familiar with the useful offices and eager people who are available and willing to help you succeed!

Outreach & Welcome Services is Hiring Student Ambassadors for Spring 2018!
Outreach & Welcome Services is looking for Student Ambassadors for Spring 2018. Gain leadership skills while helping other students enroll at LMC, and earn money while doing it! Good candidates will be interested in helping others navigate the college enrollment steps, have a 2.75 GPA (or higher), and able to work 8-12 hours per week.

Stop by the Welcome Desk in the Student Services Lobby to pick up an application, or to access the application online (and read about our current Ambassadors), go to our MEET THE AMBASSADORS web link. Return all completed applications to the Welcome Desk by Wednesday, January 10.  But don't wait for the deadline, apply today! We could be reading your bio next!

EAST BAY CAREER ADVANCEMENT ACADEMY

The East Bay Career Advancement Academy (CAA) is offering a one semester, 12.5 unit ETEC program in Spring 2018. Graduates of the program work in industries with intricate electrical systems and  need employees with high level skills to succeed in their globally competitive markets. All student fees, including books and supplies, are provided to program participants.

Are you interested in making a difference at LMC? Want to have a voice in important decisions that affect you and other students? Looking to gain great experience and develop leadership skills? If you answered yes, please consider joining the student government and apply to become a Senator with the  Los Medanos College Associated Students (LMCAS) for Spring 2018!

FINANCIAL AID RESOURCES

Continue to Receive Financial Aid in Spring 2018
Did you know that to continue to receive Financial Aid in Spring 2018, students are required to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements during Fall 2017?

The Office of Financial Aid will be reviewing Fall 2017 grades to verify that students have met SAP requirements, and will be notifying students who do not meet the requirements through InSite email.

2017-2018 FAFSA & Dream Act - 
It's Not Too Late!
Students who have not applied for FAFSA or the Dream Act may still be eligible for financial aid. Avoid long lines and delayed processing times with the approaching Spring 2018 semester by being proactive and apply now!

Jump Start Your 2018 - 2019 FAFSA
The 2018-2019 FAFSA is now being accepted. Although it is not yet being processed, we encourage students to file prior to the March 2nd priority filing deadline. Students need not wait for W2's or to file taxes. On the 2018-2019 FAFSA, students and parents will report 2016 tax information. Don't wait for the New Year - apply today!

Check Your Status
Students who have applied but have not received payment, should log into InSite and view your Checklist. Remember to submit all requested documents and/or information to complete the financial aid process in a timely manner.

To access your Checklist:

1. Log into the InSite Portal and choose Financial Aid (2017-2018) under Quicklinks .
2. Review the Checklist to identify which forms or documents you need to submit.
3. Visit the Financial Aid Office during our office hours listed below to submit the documents requested.

Students can also visit the Office of Financial Aid in the Students Services building, Room 309, to check their financial aid status. For identity protection and privacy, we require all students to provide photo identification at the time of each visit.

Many Scholarships available
LMC Foundation Scholarships Now Open!
Nearly 40 LMC Foundation scholarship opportunities are available to both LMC continuing and transferring students. Scholarship awards range from $100 - $10,000 and  Los Medanos College students can apply now! Students who complete the online general application can be auto-matched to specific scholarship opportunities and be recommended for additional scholarship opportunities.

 
Transfer Scholarships Available!
Transfer scholarship opportunities are offered by individual donors, businesses, organizations, and foundations to students who will be transferring in the upcoming fall and/or spring semesters. Here is a list of upcoming Transfer Scholarships:
  • Kennedy-King Memorial Scholarship - $10,000 - Apply by February 3.
  • Community College Students Scholarship - $4,000 - Apply by March 30.
  • Cal RTA Diablo Vista Scholarship - $5,000 - Apply by February 3.
  • Blackhawk Women's Scholarship Fund - $ Varies - Apply by March 18.
  • Charles & Jo Lupsha Memorial Scholarship - $5,000 - Apply by March 29.

We are, once again, collecting toys for the children served by the Village Community Resource Center (VCRC) in Brentwood.
