Find Out if You Qualify for Free Tuition
Have you heard? Los Medanos College is offering tuition-free college for all first-time, full-time students for a whole year! As a part of our College Promise effort, the district launched the FTprogram for the Fall 2018 term* and is offering it again for Spring 2019. 

Here's how it works: 
  •     Be a first time college student 
  •     Enroll in a minimum of 12 units for the Spring 2019 term 
  •     End the term with a GPA of 2.0 or higher 
  •     Complete a short FT3 application/pledge  
  •     Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Dream Act Application 
  •     Have an educational plan on file 
Once all the above are successfully fulfilled, you will  r eceive a full refund of all of your enrollment fees!!! 

NOTE*: Students who successfully complete FT3 for the fall 2018 semester, will automatically be enrolled in the program again for spring 2019.

LMC CHILDCARE  SERVICES

Spring 2019 Child Care Registration Now Open!
Spaces are now available to enroll your child in LMC's Child Care Services. The Child Study Center offers services for children aged 6 months to 5 years of age. Full-time student-parents who are continuing their education from semester to semester will be given the highest priority for enrollment in the childcare program. For Information on fees and scheduling, view the Child Study Center schedule and fees.

To enroll your child, go to the Child Study Center at the main campus, or call (925) 473-7640 to make an appointment.

Textbook Rentals
Fall 2018 textbook rentals are due back to the LMC Bookstore at the Pittsburg campus no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14.

COOPERATIVE WORK EXPERIENCE

Is CWEE for you?
Cooperative Work Experience Education (CWEE) at Los Medanos College is a course where students can earn up to 4 college units for their current work, internship, or volunteer experience. You don't attend class; your job IS the class!

Steps to apply:
  1. Fill out the CWEE application
  2. Enroll in a CWEE course (COOP-160, COOP-170, or COOP-180)
  3. Attend a mandatory orientation

SCHOLARSHIP NEWS

Foundation Scholarship Application is Now Open!
The LMC Foundation offers over 40 different scholarship opportunities in which the criteria for each scholarship varies. As an LMC student, make sure you take advantage of this great scholarship opportunity. For information about eligibility, requirements, award amounts, how to apply, and more go to the LMC Scholarships webpage and select Foundation Scholarships.

External Scholarship Opportunities
External scholarship opportunities are offered by individual donors, businesses, organizations, foundations, etc. Students will need to complete a separate application for each scholarship, so go to the External Scholarships link on the Financial Aid webpage to view individual scholarship application information, requirements, and deadlines. 
 
"I Can Afford College" Snaps for Cash Sweepstakes
Snap a selfie, post how you spend your cash for college, and win!! The grand-prize winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship that can be used for community college education-related expenses. There are also second and third place prizes of $250 gift cards/college tech packages, and $100 gift cards will be awarded weekly to contest participants. Deadline: December 30.

FINANCIAL AID NEWS

Jump Start the 2019-2020 FAFSA! 
2019-2020 FAFSAs are now being accepted. Although financial aid is not processing applications yet, students are encouraged to file prior to the March 2nd priority deadline. On the 2019-2020 FAFSA, students and parents will report 2017 tax information, but students don't have to wait for W2's or to file taxes. Do not wait for the New Year. Submit your FAFSA Application today!
  
2019-2020 CA Dream Act - Apply Now!
The California Dream Act allows AB 540 eligible students to apply for and receive several types of financial aid, including:
  • CA College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governors Fee Waiver).
  • State financial aid (like Cal and Chafee Grants)
  • Assistance from EOPS, CARE or CalWORKs
  • Privately-funded scholarships
Complete a  CA Dream Act application or for  more information on AB540 eligibility, visit the Financial Aid
 web page.   

Still haven't filed for 2018-2019?
It is not too late to complete FAFSA or Dream Act Applications for the current 2018-2019 academic year, which covers the upcoming Spring 2019 term. Avoid long lines and delayed processing by being proactive. Apply today!

Still waiting for Fall funds?
Students who are eligible, but have not yet received Fall payment, please view your Checklist on InSite. If required, submit all requested documents and/or information to complete the financial aid process in a timely manner.
 
To view your Checklist:
  1. Log into InSite and select Financial Aid (2018-2019)
  2. Review the Checklist to identify which forms or documents you need to submit.
  3. Visit the Financial Aid Office during office hours to submit requested documents.
Students can also visit the Office of Financial Aid in the Students Services Center to check their financial aid status. For identity protection and privacy, we require all students to provide photo identification at the time of each visit.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements (SAP)
To continue to receive financial aid next semester, students must meet minimum academic and progress requirements. The Office of Financial Aid will be verifying minimum academic and progress requirements at the end of the Fall 2018 semester, according to the college Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy. Once the fall semester has concluded and final grades are posted, students may receive an email regarding SAP status.

Winter Recess
The LMC Pittsburg and Brentwood Campuses will be closed Thursday, December 20 through Tuesday, January 1.  Hours of operation prior to Winter Recess on Monday - Wednesday, December 17-19 will be from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

New DSP&S Program Assistant
The Brentwood Center now has a full-time Program Assistant, former Mustang Lawrence Punsalang.  After working at CCC and DVC he transferred to LMC on November 1, bringing his expertise in supporting students with disabilities.  Lawrence can be found in office A2, Monday - Thursday, to assist students with all DSP&S needs.
  
Brentwood Center Holiday Toy Drive
For the 13th year we are again collecting toys for the children served by the Village Community Resource Center (VCRS) in Brentwood.  This year there are 73 children between the ages of 5 and 11 for whom we are collecting gifts.  We will be accepting donations at the front office through Friday, December 14.  If you have any questions, please call or stop by the Brentwood Center front desk.  For more information, and to learn about the valuable help they provide to the community, visit the VCRC website
  
Bookstore News
Textbook Buybacks will be held at the Brentwood Center, Wednesday and Thursday, December 12 & 13, in Room 13, from 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Spring Textbook Sales will be available at the Pittsburg campus and online at www.lmcbookstore.net beginning Friday, January 18. 
Brentwood textbook sales will be held January 25 - February 8th.  Please visit the Brentwood Center webpage for updates on specific times and location.
  
Microwave for Student Use
Did you know that there is now a microwave available for student use?  It is located next to the vending machines at the north end of the center. 
  
Parking Reminder
Student parking at the Brentwood Center is restricted to the public area in front of the center as noted in purple on the Brentwood Center Parking map. Students are encouraged to respect the private parking of our neighbors or be subject to getting towed!
