Our goal is to "be in touch" so our families "stay in touch"

with what is happening on and off the basketball court.

LMVSC Inaugural Summer Season

During the Summer 2018, Lee Mount Vernon Sports Club (LMVSC) started its first season of summer basketball.  We were able to field co-ed teams in the D division (1st/2nd Grade) and the C division (3rd/4th Grade).  Games took place on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays starting at 5:45p and ending no later than 9:00p.  Although the score of each game was recorded, we did not keep standings in accordance with our primary goal of providing players with additional opportunities to play basketball.  Although we were not able to have full divisions of teams for the older players, we think the ground work has been laid for expanding the program next summer.

In addition to our co-ed divisions for 4th grade and below, we also held clinics for our 5th and 6th grade girls.  These clinics, run by Michael Montante and Chris Larson, enabled the girls to work on their skills and put them to the test during 3-on-3 matches during the clinics.  Additionally, during the last two weeks the girls participated against each other in competitions similar to our street-soccer sessions.  Thanks to Coaches Montante and Larson for running this vital program this summer.

LMVSC Recreational Basketball Opens This Month

LMVSC anticipates opening up registration for recreational basketball on Monday, September 17th.

Some information about our upcoming Winter season:
  • Practices will start by the beginning of December, with games beginning on January 5, 2019.
  • Teams practice once a week.  Time/date/location of that practice will be based upon the coach's indicated preferences.  Regular season games will generally be played on Saturdays.  If we have an odd division, there may be games on Sundays.
  • Players are placed based on the schools they attend, the neighborhoods where they live, and requests.  A greater importance is placed on keeping players with their classmates and friends in the neighborhood.  We do our best to honor requests, however we do not guarantee placements.  Players are placed according to date of registration.  You are more likely to be placed with schoolmates and neighborhood friends and/or have your request honored if you register early.
  • We do allow travel players to play in our recreational league, however there may no more than one travel player per team until all teams in the division have a travel player.  If all teams have at least one travel player, we will then put a second travel player on each team until every team has two travel players.  Because of this policy, it is important that you disclose if your player is playing travel basketball while playing recreational basketball.
  • Teams are generally limited to 8 players in the B, C and D divisions, while the A, AA and AAA teams may have up to ten.
  • Although we have not yet been issued permits for the Winter season, practices will take place throughout the Franconia, Kingstowne, Virginia Hills and Mount Vernon areas.  Games have historically taken place at Mark Twain MS, Franconia ES, Rose Hill ES, Cameron ES, Bush Hill ES and Hayfield ES.
  • We will be looking for coaches and player directors for this upcoming season.  Please register to volunteer when registering your player.  If you have questions about these important positions, feel free to contact Annemarie McGavin at [email protected].

LMVSC Travel Basketball

LMVSC participates and sponsors travel teams in the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL).  FCYBL have varying divisions for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls.  We will be holding tryouts for various teams starting on October 1st.  If your player is interested in trying out for LMVSC's County travel teams, keep a lookout for the dates of those tryouts.  We hope to have open gyms prior to the tryout dates.

Current County Travel Coaches for LMVSC are as follows:
  • 8th Grade Girls:  Julia Ebron
  • 7th Grade Boys Red Team: James Bosley
  • 7th Grade Boys White Team: Scott Peters
We are currently seeking County Travel coaches for 5th grade boys and girls, 6th grade girls, and 7th grade girls.  If we have enough players to support a second team for the 8th grade girls division, we could need a coach for that team as well.
