We were so happy to welcome back all of our Knights this past week as we got off to a great start for 2020! We have now completed one week of both the 3rd quarter and the 2nd semester of the 2019-2020 school year. Please remember that there will be no school on Monday, January 20 in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

As we have seen during the 1st semester, this school year has moved along very quickly. In each of these issues we have kept the links up to remind our families that we do offer free tutoring options for all of our Knights. Once again, I encourage any student needing a little extra help to take advantage of these opportunities sooner vs. later as the Florida Department of Education state assessments will be here before we know it.

As for this initial edition for the new year, we have included some inspiring student success stories and reminders of upcoming special events. Thank you for your continued readership and best wishes for a successful week ahead!

With Knight Pride,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal
Lake Nona Middle School

A reminder again for 2020 Knights. If you should ever see or hear of something suspicious or unusual, please say something right away to any teacher, administrator, coach or our SRO. Thank you.

Knight Music

LNMS Performing Arts Recognized at the State Level.

Our Lake Nona Performing Arts Faculty received "The 2020 Middle School Enrollment Award" from The Florida Music Educators Association! This award recognizes the effectiveness of programs that excel in recruitment and retention of students. To qualify for this award 45% of a school's student body must be enrolled in a music course! Lake Nona has 56% of its student body enrolled in a Performing Arts course! We are very proud of the Performing Arts Department!!

Treble Voices Choir
Our Lake Nona Treble Voices Choir (students listed below) was selected to perform at the Florida Music Educators Association President's Concert this  past Wednesday, January 8th. They performed for an audience of music educators in the Tampa Convention Center and were the first middle school to be invited to perform. We are very proud of these fine musicians and the hard work they have put forth to prepare for this incredible honor.

Knight Garden

The Nature Club assisted after school in creating raised veggie growing beds for controlled experiments and gardening experience. Funds for the garden were provided by a Duke Alternative Energy Grant written by Ms. Menard, 6th grade science teacher. If you would like to assist this agriculture learning lesson, the garden is in need of tomato trellises and rain barrel stand. We will keep you posted on the progress of their veggie garden!
