Congratulations to Barry Weston for receiving the Helen I Phelps Award for volunteerism and to Roanoke County Public Schools for receiving the Babe and Sidney Louis Memorial Award for philanthropy at the LOA's Annual Meeting. Barry is a Volunteer Insurance Counselor who fills many other volunteer roles within the LOA. Roanoke County Public Schools have been huge contributors to Soup for Seniors. All Roanoke County Schools held drives for the project this year!

Feature Heading
The LOA raised $6295 through Roanoke Valley Gives this year. This doubled the amount we raised last year. A BIG thank you to everyone who helped make it a success! We appreciate your continued support.
LOA was approved to receive an allocation for the Neighborhood Assistance Partnership through the Commonwealth of Virginia. An individual who makes a donation of at least $500 to LOA with no restrictions can claim up to 65% of their donation as a tax credit on their Virginia taxes. Donations may be cash, stock, merchandise, marketable securities or real estate.

We still have some of this remaining!

For further information about how you can reduce your state taxes while making a donation to support the seniors that LOA serves call Shannon Abell at 345-0454 ext. 3028
How else can you help?
If you're 70 1/2 and over, you can donate your required minimum distributions (RMDs) - the amount the IRS requires you to withdraw each year from your traditional retirement accounts and pay taxes on - directly to the LOA. By doing this, you avoid income taxes on your RMD and you help the LOA at the same time. You're allowed to donate up to $100,000 a year this way.
