With much uncertainty the last couple years, we were able to get back to a familiar flow with LOA's Soup for Seniors this past month. Soup for Seniors is a food drive to support low income seniors in the harshest part of winter by delivering to them a loaded bag of shelf stable food. LOA was able to engage with numerous volunteers, donors, and recipients, realizing how much of the social aspect we missed out on the last couple years. With a big boost in volunteers, we were able to generate multiple bags with quick turnover. The outpouring of donations and time, always leaves us in awe of the kindness the Roanoke Valley offers. We were able to meet our goal in weight, with more than 45,000 pounds of food! We are still getting a few bags out which will allow us to meet that goal of delivering 2750 bags!
We could not have done it without our wonderful sponsor, AARP Virginia, and our partners Black Dog Salvage and Apria Healthcare. Thank you to our satellite locations including:
Vistar Eye Center
First Bank
RCPL Vinton
Salem Public Library, Salem VA
Apria Healthcare
Evergreen Burial Park
Mountain View Cemetery
We are extremely grateful to the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul for the use of their facilities. Finally, special thanks to our schools, companies, and individuals that volunteered, staff, donors, and the general public for this year’s success. Thank you for giving "a hot meal on a cold day" to thousands of seniors right here in our community!
