Fall Sports Update

The last few weeks have been anything but normal when it comes to fall sports planning. There have been multiple changes we've been trying to work through, but we wanted to communicate with you where things stand as of now. Protocols for locker room use, showers, laundry, hydration, athletic training, etc. are still being finalized, and will be explained via a video Town Hall meeting as we get closer to the start of school.

Fall sports (volleyball, football, cross country) will officially start on September 8 for High School and Junior High. TAPPS modified the game start dates and extended the seasons a week as well. Those schedule changes will be communicated from the coaches to the teams later in the week. If your son or daughter did not sign up for fall sports back in late May, or if you're unsure since it feels like a few years ago, please reach out to me at bhelton@liveoakclassical.com to make sure your son or daughter is signed up.

Face coverings will be required for athletics this fall except when students are engaged in physical activity or socially distanced outside. Please make sure your student has a few masks available at all times.

One note about online or on-campus instruction: regardless of the model your student is in, attendance at practices and workouts starting August 19 for in-season sports are mandatory. Off-season workouts are mandatory for all on-campus students. Online students will have workouts posted to Google Classroom which will require completion. The exceptions to this would be regular excused absences and absences due to forced quarantine because of COVID-19.
Summer Workouts and Sport Specific Instruction
We will resume voluntary workouts and skill development on August 3 ! Face coverings will be required during arrival and departure. All original safety practices (hand sanitizing, disinfecting equipment, no shared water bottles, etc.) from earlier in the summer will be enforced.

Gaiter-Style Face Coverings
While we're not exactly sure what TAPPS will require for face coverings for events in the fall, we're making the gaiter-style face covering available for purchase in the Spirit Shop. This style will allow for more flexibility when going between locker rooms, gyms, travel, physical activity, etc. These will be available for sale in the Spirit Shop in about three weeks.
Logic/Rhetoric Practice Uniforms, Off-Season Uniforms and PE Uniforms
Junior High (L1 and L2)
Practice uniforms, off-season uniforms, and PE uniforms are all the same uniform, which are sold in the Spirit Shop, so students only need one type of shirt and shorts for both years of Junior High.

High School (L3-R3)
Practice uniforms are purchased through the online team stores sent out at the beginning of a sport season to each team. For off-season, students are allowed to wear the uniforms purchased through those team stores or they may purchase the general PE uniforms sold in the Spirit Shop. PE uniforms are the green shirts and black shorts sold in the Spirit Shop and are the same uniforms used for Junior High.

TAPPS Medical Forms
Even though we weren't able to host physicals on campus this summer, they're still required for all HS athletes BEFORE the first day of practice. Here is the link for the physical/medical history that will need to be filled out, signed, and returned to the Logic/Rhetoric Office prior to September 8. Junior High students are not required to have a physical, but we highly encourage it.
Coaches Spotlight
We're excited to welcome Kyle Combs to the Live Oak staff this school year! Kyle's roles include Grammar PE Teacher, JV Boys Head Basketball Coach, and HS Boys Assistant Baseball Coach.

Kyle comes to Live Oak from Baylor University where he served as a Graduate Assistant to the Men's Basketball team for the past three years. Kyle's experience in basketball, general athletics, Kids Across America, and Athletes In Action make him an invaluable part of our staff. More important than his work experience, Kyle is like-minded and like-hearted with the mission of our school. Kyle believes that coaching is "one of the most effective means of creating change in community through the development of young people", which couldn't be more needed than the times we're living in now.
