LONE STAR SHOWCASE DAY HIGHLIGHTED BY A STOUT SURGE OF ENTRANTS IN TEXAS STALLION STAKES
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Friday, June 17, 2022) — The Lone Star Showcase Day on Sunday June 19, 2022 shines the spotlight on Texas-breds in Grand Prairie, Texas with five state-bred stakes events.

The two-Texas Stallion stakes events for juveniles, the Pan Zareta and the Staunch Avenger division, saw a surge of entrants at the entry box for both of these $75,000 stakes.  The increase in numbers of juveniles vying for the winners share in these two stakes is undoubtably a direct effect of the benefits seen from legislation passed in Texas that created the Horse Industry Escrow Account.  The two-year-olds competing in both the $75,000 Staunch Avenger for colts and geldings, and the $75,000 Pan Zareta division for fillies are the first crop of runners from Texas-sires to reach the post since the legislations inception.

Going as the ninth-race on the Lone Star Showcase Day will be the $75,000 Texas Stallion Staunch Avenger Division, headlined by the GFB Racing LLC home-bred son of Bradester, I’m A Cowboy.  Hailing from the barn of trainer Danny Pish,  the two-year old gelding debuted impressively on June 5th with a 3 and ¼ length victory at Lone Star in a Maiden Special Weight event with jockey Alfredo Contreras aboard.   The morning-line odds maker has made the Pish-trainee 7/5 on the morning-line.

Also in the Staunch Avenger-division is a pair of runners from the barn of Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, with $175,000 TTA Yearling Sale graduate Bling Bling Bling installed as the even-money favorite on the morning-line. The colt by Too Much Bling is coming into the stakes event after a third-place debut in open Maiden Special Weight company at Churchill Downs on May 4, 2022.

The likely rematch of two familiar foes in the filly and mare Texas-bred stakes division is set to unfold in the $75,000 Lane’s End Danny Shifflett Scholarship Stakes.   In her last race, Robertino Diodoro-trained Boerne faced and prevailed over five-of-the-ten other entrants in the 7.5 furlong turf event in a turf allowance event at Lone Star Park on May 21, 2022. In that allowance race,  Diodoro-trained Boerne made a sweeping stretch-run to roll past the field on the outside part of the racetrack to capture victory in front of Karl Broberg-trained Ima Discreet Lady, who was disqualified for interference and placed fifth.  Moving up in placing in that allowance event with Steve Asmussen-trained Miss Perfecta .

All three older mares have been handed the top three spots on the morning line, with Boerne going off as the morning-line favorite at 5/2 with Floyd Wethey, Jr. aboard.
