YORK COUNTY — Starting as early as July 21, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are scheduled to implement a long-term closure for northbound traffic from Route 134 (Hampton Highway) to southbound Route 17 (George Washington Memorial Highway) as part of a bridge rehabilitation project in York County.
The Route 134 northbound closure at the bridge over Route 17 is estimated to remain in place through late 2026. A signed detour will direct Route 134 northbound traffic to access Route 17 south via Victory Boulevard.
During the northbound closure, the on-ramp and bridge from Route 17 south to Route 134 will remain open to southbound traffic. Additionally, the northbound lane on Route 134 to Route 17 north will remain open.
This work is part of a $5.1 million VDOT project awarded to Kokosing Construction Company to rehabilitate the bridge on Route 134 over Route 17. Estimated for completion as early as late 2026, the bridge work includes the replacement of the bridge deck and approach slabs, as well as minor repairs to the bridge’s superstructure and substructure.
