Seemingly simple actions like slowing down, playing games, taking deep breaths, and laughing together nurture the wellbeing of parents and children, and have the power to prevent family violence.
Gather a team of family or friends to participate in fun and enriching scavenger hunt activities September 21st – 25th. The event is open to all ages and you can play from anywhere in Minnesota. Learn more and register for the event today! www.familywiseservices.org/family-fun-fest

The anniversary of 9/11 has become the largest day of service in America, recognized under federal law. The observance, widely known as “9/11 Day,” now engages more than 30 million Americans, many of whom participate by taking time to volunteer, donate to charities and perform other “good deeds.”
This year HandsOn Twin Cities is thrilled to partner with 9/11 Day to support our local 9/11 Day Meal Packing event, which will take place at the University of Saint Thomas Schoenecker Arena in St. Paul. Nationally more than six million meals will be packed, engaging 20,000 volunteers. Local meals will be distributed to individuals and families right here in the Twin Cities through Second Harvest Heartland!
We need your help to make it happen!
We’re looking for Event Support Volunteers to help orchestrate the event experience. All volunteers will receive a 9/11 Day Volunteer T-shirt and refreshments.
This is a perfect opportunity for Employee/Business Resource Groups, teams, or individuals to help out! The shifts are approximately 3-4 hours and we will coordinate parking for all support volunteers. They include:
-
Event Set-up (Sunday, September 10 from 2-6 pm)
- Table Captains (shifts on September 11 from 7:30 am – 11:30 am or 11:00 – 3:00 pm)
- Heavy Lifters, to help replenish meal ingredients (shifts on September 11 from 7:30 am – 11:30 am or 11:00 – 3:00 pm)
- Runners to help move boxes (shifts on September 11 from 7:30 am – 11:30 am or 11:00 – 3:00 pm)
Volunteers can register for the shift and role of their choice at https://www.handsontwincities.org/911dayofservice2023-1, or if you have a team you can be in touch with Sheila Her at sheila@handsontwincities.org and we can help get teams easily registered. There is no cost or fee associated with this opportunity.

Help Keep Our Program Going
Just before the start of the 2023-24 school year, students and families in St. Paul are facing significant cutbacks and outright eliminations of after-school programs for the upcoming year - once again due to funding issues. These youth development programs have been vital to the ability of St. Paul families to access equal opportunity for their children, not to mention simply having healthy outlets for youth to develop and maintain faith in the St. Paul school system.
Programs supported and led by Chops, inc. are also facing cut back. Chops, with the support of the Midway Chamber and Commerce, has made huge strides in supporting SPPS in restoring healthy youth outlets shaken by waves of inconsistent funding and decimated in the aftermath of the Coivd-19 pandemic. As St. Paul families again receive the news their children’s opportunities may disappear, Chops seeks to fight back.
Chops is calling fellow Midway Chamber of Commerce members to join us in fundraising to cover our operating costs for the 2023-24 school year. This will not only empower St. Paul schools to have confidence the restorative music programs will continue but to have more funds to avoid cuts to other youth programs this year. With the cost of an instructor for the entire year at approximately $4800, Chops believes that the stability of these programs is well within reach. Each time this fundraising benchmark is met, another program is saved from being taken away from St. Paul youth yet again.
If you are able to support Chops in reaching its goal, please email Michael at Michael.finney@chopsinc.com.
