Lancer Café Construction Begins this Summer

Cafes to offer grab-and-go meal options, gourmet coffee, refreshers and more.

In recent months, the District has been collaborating with Quest Food Management Services to enhance the overall food program and expand options for students. As part of the food service contract renewal, Quest proposed not only a revamped dining space for students but also an expansion of café offerings at both East Campus and West Campus for the 2025-2026 school year.

During the March Board of Education meeting, the District approved the addition of Lancer Cafés to both campuses. This means students and staff will have a new opportunity for grab-and-go meal options, gourmet coffee, refreshers, smoothies, and other items similar to Starbucks. The cafes are designed to improve the student experience by providing expanded options and access to food and beverages at different points throughout the day. Based on student feedback and sales from other client locations, Quest believes this format is more popular than the traditional serving lines in school cafeterias.

The District will not incur any added costs related to the build-out of these cafes. Quest has been working with ARCON, the District’s architects, to engage a contractor to plan and complete this work. With construction commencing this summer, the new Lancer Cafés are expected to be ready and operational in August!

Second Semester Final Exams

Reminder: modified 3-day exam schedule next week.

During these exam days, Lake Park students will have access to tutoring and bus transportation (pick-up/drop-off) that is provided on a typical school day. Students who require transportation between campuses during the day will have a bus provided for them.

Lancers remaining for the make-up period must provide their own transportation. No after-school activity or late bus transportation will be provided.

Precision Machining Competition

Honoring excellence in precision machining skills.

On Thursday, May 8, several machining students competed in the 2024-2025 TMA PMC (Tooling and Manufacturing Association Precision Machining Competition). TMA PMC was hosted at Mazak Corporation in Schaumburg, where students entered projects they manufactured in the Lake Park machine shop, including meat mallets, screw thread shorteners, tap wrenches, and NIMS competency projects on the mills and lathes. These impressive accomplishments were judged among submissions from over 20 schools and 200 projects across eight machining categories throughout the Chicagoland region. Lake Park students performed among the best of all schools represented, placing in several categories.

Film Appreciation Society

Free summer screening of Yankee Doodle Dandy.

Lake Park High School's Film Appreciation Society is excited to announce a special summer matinee to help you prepare for the Independence Day holiday. On Saturday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. the classic musical Yankee Doodle Dandy will be shown. Open to the community, this free event will be held at the Lake Park High School West Campus auditorium.

The 1942 biopic focuses on the life of composer/singer/dancer George M. Cohan and stars James Cagney as the incredible music man. Beginning in the humble show halls of vaudeville with his family, Cohan's story continues through his career struggles and culminates in Cohan's major "comeback," with a climax of him receiving a presidential medal for his contributions to American culture. Directed by Michael Curtiz, the film contains several memorable musical numbers, including the titular "Yankee Doodle Dandy," "You're a Grand Old Flag," and "Over There."

Community film buffs are invited to attend the cinematic presentation and stay for an in-depth panel discussion regarding the background and history of the featured film.

Community Connection: SRO Recognized for Service

During a statewide ceremony on Friday, May 16, the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (INSPRA) recognized Lake Park’s West Campus School Resource Officer (SRO) Chris Schwytzer for Distinguished Service in the Community Member category. The Distinguished Service Celebration recognizes individuals and groups throughout the state who partner with the school communications office and serve as ambassadors for public education and champions of students and staff.

A 16-year veteran of the Roselle Police Department, Officer Schwytzer has been a reassuring presence serving at West Campus since the 2014-2015 school year. Not only is Officer Schwytzer committed to the safety and well-being of all Lancers, he believes in creating a culture of trust, collaboration, and belonging. He builds relationships by greeting students and staff every morning and has become a trusted and visible leader.

His commitment extends far beyond traditional school hours as he participates in campus events like the annual Lancer Hero basketball game benefiting Special Olympics and the annual Transition Assistance Program (TAP) autism walk, joined by neighboring TAP programs. Students not only recognize him, but have also come to expect his friendly face at their community events. In his final days as SRO, Officer Schwytzer has set a high standard for safety and security while fostering mutual respect and trust that will impact Lake Park for years to come.
