Congratulations to Girls Golfers Isha Patel (12), Amaani Patel (11) and Samantha Rottinger (11) who all advanced to the IHSA State Tournament at the New Trier Sectional. Widely recognized as the toughest Girls Golf State Qualifying sectional in the state, these Lancers overcame a deep field to punch their tickets to State!


This represents an incredible season for all three golfers as earlier Isha captured the DuKane Conference individual crown while leading the Lancers to their first-ever conference team championship. Samantha won an IHSA Regional individual title closely followed by her teammate Amaani in the runner up position leading the Lancers to the program's second-ever IHSA Regional title.

Following the first spirit march of the 2025-2026 school year, the Lancer golfers competed last weekend in the IHSA Class 2A State Tournament hosted October 10-11 at the Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur, IL. They all successfully advanced to play in Saturday competition.


The girls golf program is coached by Head Coach James Chellson and Assistant Coach Billy Pitcher.

On Wednesday, September 17, Lake Park High School administered a practice assessment for the PreACT® through the Progress Learning platform, available at https://app.progresslearning.com/login. Students now have access to view their scores. 

Families are encouraged to login to the portal with their students to review the practice scores together. Follow the instructions to view a composite score, sub scores, and more, right down to the actual question. 

Progress Learning is committed to providing PreACT®/ACT® aligned assessments, ensuring students are well-prepared for upcoming assessments. These practice assessments are invaluable for not only gauging content knowledge but also honing essential ACT® strategies. With consistent effort and strategic preparation, Lancers can achieve their best possible score on the assessments.

ARCON, the District's architectural consulting firm, has made significant progress in its ongoing assessment of Lake Park High School facilities following a series of Visioning Committee meetings conducted in September and October with nearly two dozen stakeholders who use and work in the schools and reside in the community.

The three, 90-minute sessions included valuable input from the committee composed of staff members, students, parents, community members, administrators, and Board of Education representatives. ARCON will now deliver a proposed comprehensive draft master facilities plan following the priorities identified by the Visioning Committee, focus group feedback, and findings from the comprehensive campus walk-throughs conducted from late 2024 through early 2025.

The firm is scheduled to present its findings as a discussion item during the Monday, October 20 Board of Education meeting. To learn more, guests may attend the 6:00 p.m. meeting in the East Campus Community Room or tune into the live stream to learn about ARCON’s summary.

On Monday, October 20 beginning at 6:30 p.m., the Lake Park Counseling Department and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) will host a virtual workshop via Google Meets to assist Class of 2026 Lancer students and families with completing either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid (Alternative Application). These forms are used to apply for financial aid, such as the Federal Pell Grant and/or the Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP). Many colleges also use these forms to consider students for institutional money. To join the Webinar, click here.

Individuals must create an FSA ID 1-3 business days prior to the workshop to be able to start the FAFSA. Please review these instructions for assistance.

Students and parents use their FSA ID to provide approval for the transfer of tax and income information from the IRS to the FAFSA. Please note that the FSA ID is not used with the Alternative Application. 

To get the most out of the workshop, students and parents/guardians should participate together and have the following information available:

• 2024 federal tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned
• Banking statements and records of investment (if applicable)
• Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
• List of colleges the student has applied to (or plans to apply to)
• Social Security Number (if applicable)
• Alien Registration Number, if the student is not a U.S. citizen
• An FSA ID to sign electronically

Completing the FAFSA, Alternative Application, or the Non-Participation Form is an Illinois State requirement for graduation.

Lake Park High School's Film Appreciation Society is excited to announce the second October film screening is the 1933 Universal Studios classic monster thriller 'The Invisible Man', directed by James Whale. A mysterious man, played by Claude Rains, seeks lodging in the English countryside. The stranger, whose head is completely covered in bandages, wants a quiet room at an inn in a remote village. The village is uneasy with this new lodger. The situation escalates into madness as the tension becomes an open conflict between the stranger and the villagers. The collision course between the mystery man and the village is a race against time as science is recruited to try to defuse the explosive situation. Other leading roles are played by Gloria Stuart, Henry Travers, and Una O’Connor. The free event will be held on Wednesday, October 29 at 6:00 p.m. in the West Campus auditorium. The run time of the film is 1 hour, 11 minutes.

Community film buffs are invited to attend the cinematic presentation and stay for an in-depth panel discussion regarding the background and history of the film. All that and free popcorn, some movie trivia, and prizes! 

The Lake Park Film Appreciation Society aims to engage the community in the presentation, exploration, interpretation, and critical discussion of classic cinema.

Make plans to come out and support the Lake Park band as Lancers make their final push towards the Illinois Marching Band Championships, held at the University of Illinois on Saturday, October 25! In preparation for State and to provide a great sendoff for the band, West Campus will host a Marching Band Community Night on Thursday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m.

This event is free and open to the community—bring your family, friends, and neighbors to help cheer on the Band! Complimentary cookies and hot chocolate will be served after a performance of this year's show, To the Light, by our very own Lake Park Marching Band.

Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides students the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 25,000 high school students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $1.4 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.
