Spotlight on the Lake Park Educational Foundation | |
Each month, the LP Link will spotlight an area of District focus with the goal of sharing valuable information and resources with our school community. This month’s focus celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Lake Park Educational Foundation (LPEF). Since its inception on September 9, 1989 as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, LPEF has been committed to working closely with the District to assess needs and develop projects and programs that benefit Lake Park students and staff.
Dedicated to the mission of providing resources for unique programs and activities to enhance student learning, the Foundation continues to provide programs, activities, and services; host a variety of fundraising programs; and collaborate with various groups including business sponsors to help it achieve its mission. The generosity of Lancer families, staff, alumni, retirees, and community supporters has generated almost a million dollars over the past 35 years.

Night of Fine Dining | East Campus | Friday, December 6 | 5:30 p.m.
Another popular and successful fundraising event is coming up that you don’t want to miss! Join LPEF for the Night of Fine Dining and Theatre on Friday, December 6 along with the Lake Park Theatre production of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.
Guests will enjoy an amazing winter tasting menu along with a silent auction and musical entertainment from the Lake Park Jazz Ensemble before receiving VIP seating for the Lake Park holiday play! Students enrolled in Family & Consumer Science classes along with those in the FCCLA (Family, Career, Community Leaders of America) Club will engage in an in-school field trip to transform the East Campus student cafeteria into an event venue, create appetizers and desserts, and gain first-hand experience with front-of-house and back-of-house preparations. Lancers involved in Lake Park’s Art Club also contribute in meaningful ways by designing the centerpieces and other thematic decorations for the event.
Throughout the evening, guests can bid on a wide array of silent auction items and purchase holiday gifts. Lake Park alum Justin Roman, host of The MVP Game on Marquee Sports Network, will add charisma as emcee for this student-led evening. Tickets are on sale now at the Night of Fine Dining website!
Scholarships
Did you know that LPEF awarded 40 scholarships worth $73,000 to the Class of 2024 and only Lake Park students were eligible? Annually, the 30+ LPEF scholarships have varied criteria based on activities, athletics, academics, career-focus, financial need, and more. Scholarships are available to attend accredited trade schools, technical institutes, community colleges, and four-year colleges/universities.
Because some of the specialized scholarships typically receive few responses, the odds of selection increase! For families with graduating seniors, please reiterate the importance of submitting an application, even if the criteria is not a perfect match. The scholarship donors can only select recipients from those students who submit a completed application. Please encourage your child to stop by the Career & College Center for any questions or assistance when the scholarship opportunities are announced before winter break.

The Foundation’s Impact
While only a few opportunities have been highlighted, LPEF’s impact and involvement extend far beyond with partnership programs including INCubatorEDU, LP Gateways with the Transition Assistance Program (TAP), the English Department Freshman Poetry Unit, and the Lake Park Marching Band. Furthermore, students benefit from the Lancer Emergency Support Fund and teachers can apply for Funds for Excellence grants for innovative programs.

Boys Golf State Sendoff and Spirit March
West Campus celebrated the first sendoff of the fall athletic season.
| |
Congratulations to Boys Golfers Abhi Patel (11) and Cole Matson (12) who both qualified for the IHSA State Tournament at the Glenbrook North Sectional held at Heritage Oaks Golf Club in Northbrook. The Glenbrook North Sectional was considered one of the toughest large-school sectionals in the state this fall. For both golfers to qualify out of this group was particularly impressive! Abhi shot a 72 over 18 holes just beating his teammate, Cole, who shot 73 and both Lancers finished in the Top 10 against a loaded field.
Abhi and Cole will compete in the IHSA State Tournament today and Saturday, October 18-19 at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Club in Bloomington.
The Boys Golf program is coached by Head Coach Tim Moran and Assistant Coach Tom Mazzie.

Public Hearing: e-Learning Days
Board of Education to vote on 3-year renewal at October 28 meeting.
| |
The Illinois State Board of Education has granted all schools the option of developing an e-Learning plan in the event that a school building has to shift quickly into remote learning. In November 2021, the Lake Park Board of Education approved a resolution to adopt e-Learning days, which permit student instruction to be received electronically on days when students are not physically present at school (such as school closings caused by extreme weather conditions or other emergencies).
Renewal of the e-Learning plan will be presented to the Board of Education on Monday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m. in conjunction with a public hearing in the East Campus Community Room. The purpose of the public hearing is to seek input from school personnel, parents/guardians, and other community members regarding a 3-year renewal of e-Learning days in lieu of emergency days that need to be made up due to extreme weather or other emergencies.
Visit the District’s e-Learning webpage or read Frequently Asked Questions, which provide more specific information about e-Learning days. Lake Park is pleased to have this opportunity to continue student learning.

They are also visiting the many museums Chicago offers, including the Art Institute and the Museum of Science & Industry.

Thespians Getting Ready for Killer Nights!
Lake Park Thespians present fright-filled fundraiser and fall play.
| |
Guests over 12 years old are invited to "Summer Camp Slasher" on Friday, October 25 from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. in the East Campus Dice Auditorium when the Lake Park Thespians present their annual haunted house. The production is developed, directed, produced, written, and cast completely by Lancer students. A camp counselor will lead visitors through the haunted house when they arrive, and they may or may not make it until the very end as the creature will start picking off counselors and campers, engulfing audiences in the chaos.

The play focuses on the escalating tension and suspicion as the characters try to uncover the identity of the killer while trapped on the island with no way to escape.
Tickets, which may be purchased online in advance or at the door, are free to seniors and LP students, and $5 for anyone age 13 or older. Performances run Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m; and Sunday, November 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the East Campus Dice Auditorium.
