Testing Calendar: Wednesday, October 9
Read an important update regarding standardized testing in Illinois.
| |
|
As you may be aware, the state has recently transitioned from using the SAT to the ACT for high school standardized assessment in spring 2025. To help students prepare effectively for this change, Lake Park is implementing a key initiative this fall.
On Wednesday, October 9, all students in Grades 9, 10 and 11 will participate in digital practice assessments via the tool, Horizon Education (HE), that mirrors the ACT they will encounter in the spring. This will provide valuable experience and help Lancers become familiar with the format and content of the test. The following practice tests are designed to offer students a realistic preview of the ACT, provide timely feedback, and support their preparation efforts.
- 9th Grade will take the HE-PreACT9
- 10th Grade will take the HE-PreACT10
-
11th Grade will take the HE-PreACT11 (*12th graders who do not have a score from 11th grade)
- 12th Grade will have a non-attendance day
Results from the practice assessments will be available for review through each student’s login within the assessment platform on Friday, October 11. Parents/guardians are encouraged to discuss the results with your child to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
Lake Park is committed to ensuring that our students are well-prepared for their assessments and believe this practice will be a valuable step in their preparation journey. In the next few months, the state is expected to release more details about the spring administration of the PreACT9, PreACT10 and ACT11.
Please watch for future communication about transportation and the schedule for October 9 testing. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

District Facility Assessment, Master Plan
Board of Education seeks stakeholder feedback as master planning begins.
| |
|
During the Monday, August 26 meeting, the Board of Education approved a recommendation to hire ARCON Associates, INC, the District’s architect, to conduct a comprehensive district-wide facility assessment and master plan document for Board review. The proposal outlined the data gathering, visioning, and planning elements ARCON will incorporate into the assessment.
Building leadership, including administration and building managers, have already begun identifying facility needs in the following categories: Athletics, Activities, Classrooms, Maintenance/Custodial, Safety & Security and Technology.
In early October, ARCON will leverage weekends to conduct thorough site assessments at both East Campus and West Campus to begin developing the planning document. Concurrently, ARCON will launch a stakeholder engagement process that will assess needs, provide information about the outcomes of the assessment process, and share cost information in an effort to assess interests and priorities. This process will occur over a series of several meetings with different stakeholder groups. Watch for future updates about how to get involved and provide your input!

Theatre Department Presents Free Children's Play
The 2024-2025 theatre season premieres with Miss Nelson is Missing!
| |
|
The Lake Park Theatre Department kicks off their 2024-2025 season with the children’s play, Miss Nelson is Missing!, on Wednesday, September 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the East Campus Dice Auditorium. Admission is free to this community event and the run time is one hour.
Based on the beloved classic children’s book, Miss Nelson is Missing is a fun-filled show about a misbehaving class, their sweet teacher, and the legendary, strict substitute teacher Viola Swamp. Miss Nelson (senior, Lauren Troutman) can't control her crazy classroom of ‘delinquent’ children. The students are led by George Jorgenson, Jr. (sophomore, Johnny Henderson), his best friend Morris, a.k.a. Mouse (sophomore, Michaelangelo Lampignano), the wannabe supermodel Kimberly (sophomore, Alexis Pichay), the rebellious, spitfire feminist Lavita (freshman, Eliza Johanek), the nerdy “leader” Raymond (sophomore, David Adenekan), the shy and sometimes nauseous Phoebe (sophomore, Mackenzie Paulish), and the “The King” himself Elvis (sophomore, Victor Tellez).
When Miss Nelson disappears, her replacement is the hard-as-nails, detention-loving, recess-canceling, homework-overloading substitute teacher Viola Swamp! With the Big Test approaching, which the wacky ‘in the times’ principal (junior, Tyler Graham) wants them all to pass, the kids suddenly realize how much they miss Miss Nelson and they'll do anything -- including hiring a private eye (junior, Izzy Smith) -- to solve the mystery of her disappearance and bring her back.
The cast and crew will prepare for the evening show with four additional day-time performances for over 1,500 students from area elementary and middle schools on September 24 and 25.
