Testing Calendar: Wednesday, September 17

Plan ahead for PreACT testing for grades 9-11; non-attendance day for seniors.

Wednesday, September 17 is a required attendance day for all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Using Chromebooks, students will participate in a digital practice assessment that mirrors the ACT (American College Testing) using a tool developed by Progress Learning. This experience will help Lancers become familiar with the format and content of the test that they will encounter in the spring. The practice tests are designed to offer a realistic preview of the ACT, provide timely feedback about student learning, and support preparation efforts.

Senior students in the Class of 2026 will not attend classes; however, they are strongly encouraged to use that time for postsecondary planning and exploration.

Transportation:

Morning buses will follow their normal route times and return students home after the completion of testing. Other important details:

Arrive for “Wake the Brain!” activities from 6:52-7:12 a.m. (West) | No zero-period classes
Arrive for “Wake the Brain!” activities from 7:15-7:45 a.m. (East)
East Campus students who start their daily schedule at West Campus should report directly to their assigned testing room at East Campus on testing day.
Technology Center of DuPage (TCD) students will not attend TCD classes on testing day.

Important Reminders:

Charge Chromebooks fully the night before testing
Bring a current photo ID
Lunch will not be served during the day, but snacks and water will be available in the morning prior to testing.

46th Annual Lancer Joust

Make plans this weekend to enjoy the pageantry at West Campus.

Join the Lake Park High School Marching Band at West Campus on Saturday, September 6 for the 46th Annual Lancer Joust Marching Band Competition.

Lake Park takes great pride in hosting this exceptional music event, a tradition spanning four decades, which invites high school programs throughout the region to showcase the talents and skills of student musicians. Uniquely combining both performance and competition, this annual experience culminates many months of preparation.

Featuring 10 outstanding bands, the Joust schedule begins with the opening ceremony at 4:45 p.m. The Lake Park Marching Band will conclude the performances at approximately 7:45 p.m. with an exhibition (non-competitive) performance of To the Light.

Joust admission is by ticket only: $13 for adults, $8 for students, seniors, and children 5 and older.

FirstView 1.0 Bus Tracking App

Download the *new* mobile app, FirstView 1.0, to prepare for registration.

In continued partnership with First Student, the District’s transportation provider, Lake Park is pleased to provide Lancer families information about FirstView®, a bus tracking and communications app for your smartphone or desktop.

New this school year, families (including prior users) must download a new mobile app. FirstView 1.0 is available in the App Store or Google Play, and the icon can be identified with a red background.

Visit www.myfirstview.com to prepare for registration, download the app, and create a new account. During the week of September 8, families will electronically receive the required 5-digit District code and the step-by-step registration guide. The information will be sent to any student assigned to a bus route; however, there is no obligation to register. Some of the benefits and features include:

Live Tracking

The FirstView® map screen shows you the location and direction of your student’s bus, your student's stop schedule for the current day, and timestamps for school arrivals and departures. You will know when the bus arrives at or departs from school.

Predictive Stop Arrival Times

Analyzing route and GPS data, determines an estimated time of arrival to your stop provided on the FirstView® map. The app is designed to provide families with better guidelines for bus location and ETA.

Custom Alerts and Messages

Set up push or email notifications alerting you when your student's bus is a chosen distance or number of minutes away from your stop.

Multi-Stop View

Buses for all your students can be tracked with FirstView®. Using individual colors for each student, every selected stop appears on the map simultaneously for easy viewing.

Secure and Easy Access

FirstView® requires a password-protected account for app set-up. This way, only you can view your student’s stop.

Lancer Period Bell Schedule

This month's lesson to focus on Postsecondary and Career Exploration (PaCE).

While maintaining the same start and end times for each campus, Lake Park designed a Lancer Period Bell Schedule to allocate 38 minutes for whole-school programming that falls outside the traditional curriculum. The Lancer Period is scheduled approximately once per month on Thursdays. All students and staff are assigned to a designated classroom for the Lancer Period to ensure whole-school participation in each activity.

During this month’s Lancer Period on Thursday, September 11, teachers will deliver a lesson on the Illinois PaCE (Postsecondary and Career Exploration) Framework. Freshmen will be introduced to SchooLinks, a career and college exploration platform. Students will complete the "Onboarding" activity to connect their interests and strengths to career clusters, careers, and academic programs. Grades 10-12 will be working on other SchooLinks tasks.

Postsecondary and Career Exploration aims to help students explore and develop career interests. It emphasizes the importance of understanding the connection between high school coursework, attendance, and grades in relation to future educational plan.

Theatre Department Presents Children's Play

Shakespeare meets Dr. Seuss in the 2025-2026 theatre season premiere.

The Lake Park Theatre Department kicks off their 2025-2026 season with the children’s play, Hamlet Hears a Who, on Wednesday, September 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the East Campus Dice Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Admission is free to senior citizens and LP students and $5 for anyone age 13 or older.

Theatre goers will experience a brilliant mash-up of William Shakespeare and Dr. Seuss in this production that includes a cast of 17 students. Shakespeare’s original play has been “Seussified” - meaning every character speaks in rhyming couplets - but the plot remains the same. The King of Denmark dies mysteriously. His son, Hamlet, is met by the ghost of his father where it is revealed he was murdered by his own brother. Meanwhile, his brother marries the grieving widow, Queen Gertrude, and Hamlet is forced to avenge his father’s death while contemplating his own existence. Through the Seussified version, the themes are present and delivered in a gentler tone than Shakespeare’s original.

The cast and crew will perform four additional day-time performances for students from area elementary and middle schools on Tuesday, September 16 and Thursday, September 18.

Volunteers Needed!

Benefit the Athletic Booster Club by donating a few hours of your time.

The Athletic Booster Club is actively recruiting volunteers to work in the concession stands at home football games. Any Lake Park parents are welcome to assist and do not need to be involved with the football program. Revenues generated through concessions at home football games are one of the largest sources of annual fundraising for the Athletic Booster Club, which benefits all 30 Lake Park programs.

The impact can be seen in their funding of weight room equipment at both campuses used by athletic programs and Kinetic Wellness (formerly PE) classes; fully funding the District’s annual HUDL subscription used by many programs to share and analyze film; capital improvements such as scoreboard replacements and custom branded windscreens; funding of the SWAY Concussion Management program to keep students safe; and the Booster Club College Scholarship program that has impacted hundreds of graduating student-athletes and their families over the years.

Film Appreciation Society

Enjoy the first free screening of seven films for the 2025-2026 school year.

Lake Park High School's Film Appreciation Society announces the first screening of its fourth season with the heart-pounding thriller, Bad Day at Black Rock. The free event will be held on Wednesday, September 10 at 6:00 p.m. in the West Campus auditorium. Film run time is 1 hour, 21 minutes.

Showcasing the "man on the run" theme for the September installment, this 1955 John Sturges film stars Spencer Tracy as John J. Macreedy, a mysterious one-armed stranger who gets off the train in Black Rock, a mere speck of a town in the American west. What he encounters is a town full of people who shun him. Upon learning of Macreedy's purpose in visiting the town, the denizens of Black Rock ultimately launch an all-out attack against him to preserve their well-guarded secret. Other notable actors include Robert Ryan, Anne Francis, Ernest Borgnine, Walter Brennan, and Lee Marvin.

Community film buffs are invited to attend the cinematic presentation and stay for an in-depth panel discussion regarding the background and history of the featured film. Patrons will also be able to preview and vote for future film selections.

The Lake Park Film Appreciation Society aims to engage the community in the presentation, exploration, interpretation, and critical discussion of classic cinema.

Support the Rotary Club fundraiser; complete survey for safety grant application.

Rotary Fundraiser: Saturday, September 13

Step back in time to the glitz and glamour of the Roaring 20s at the Rotary Club of Bloomingdale-Roselle's annual fundraiser on Saturday, September 13. This year’s event features a Speakeasy theme that combines fun, entertainment, and philanthropy—all for a great cause. Attendees will enjoy a delicious plated dinner, dueling pianos, and a performance by Lights, Camera, Dancin' Dance Studio while immersing themselves in the lively atmosphere of the 1920s. Participation directly benefits community initiatives such as providing school supplies to local students, distributing coats to children in need, sponsoring young leaders at Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), supporting safe Halloween celebrations with the Trunk or Treat event, and much more. Tickets must be purchased by Monday, September 8.

Safe Routes to School Survey: Respond by Tuesday, September 30

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) administers the Safe Routes to School Program, which funds projects and initiatives to enhance safety for children walking and biking to school. The Village of Roselle is applying to IDOT for Safe Routes to School funding for a project that would improve safety along West Bryn Mawr Avenue, adjacent to Lake Park High School West Campus. As part of the funding application, IDOT is gathering information through a brief survey to understand how children travel to and from Lake Park. The data obtained from the survey will be used to understand how students access schools across Illinois and will aid in planning of future programs that will improve sidewalks and bike facilities, and create safe and active ways for students to travel to and from schools.
