There will be lots of new and exciting books from which to choose: fiction, non-fiction, picture books, biographies, beginning readers, science, graphic novels - you name it!
Directions on how this virtual book fair by Best Book Fairs will operate is attached, but here's some quick info:
-
Dates are Monday, March 1st - Monday, March 15
-
Two delivery options! Straight to your home for a small additional fee or delivered 2 weeks after the end of the book fair to your hybrid or Remote Academy teacher.
-

Happy reading!

LET'S CELEBRATE CROSSING GUARD APPRECIATION DAY,
MARCH 23 - 25!
March 24th is the first annual Crossing Guard Appreciation Day, and we will celebrate our crossing guards on Tuesday, March 23rd (cohort AA) and Thursday, March 25 (cohort BB). The Winchester Police Department will be nominating all 25 Winchester Crossing Guards for the first annual Crossing Guard of the Year Award hosted by the Safe Routes to Schools Program. Here are a few ways to participate:
Cards - Have students create their own cards in school or at home and share with their crossing guard on their walk to school. For students who take the bus, who don't walk to school or who are fully remote, there will be a collection box in the lobby at school so that all children will be able to participate. Students can also use this template to print and sign their own card or draw their own picture. The Winchester for Coalition for Safety will deliver 100 pre-printed cards to all schools.
Small Treats/Balloons/Card Box - Click on this spreadsheet if you want to help by setting up a station for each Crossing Guard at their post. So that both cohorts walking to school can celebrate their crossing guard, we will need a card box, flowers, balloons or a decorated poster set up on both Tuesday, March 23 and Thursday, March 25.
Capture Celebrations - Take photos on Crossing Guard Appreciation Days and share them via Instagram, Facebook, and/or Twitter with the hashtag: #MACGAppreciationDay (with permission of Crossing Guard and whoever is in photo).
Say Thank You - Simply say thank you as you pass them in the crosswalk.
A KID'S VIEW 2021
CALLING ALL LYNCH ARTISTS, POETS AND STORYTELLERS!
Deadline extended! We will be accepting submissions to our literary magazine through Sunday, March 28. We have already received more than 50 original pieces of art and writing, but it's not too late to submit your creation.
We invite submissions for our 2021 edition of A Kid's View! A Kid's View is our unique literary magazine that features poems, stories, and artwork from our Lynch students. We encourage creativity in all forms - if you can take a picture of it or get it on to a page, we're happy to share it with the community. In the past, we've had sewing projects, lego-style building projects, acrostic poems, letters, and more.
Each year, we come up with a theme to inspire kids, but don't limit your children to the theme - we love it all! Congratulations and thanks to Tara Chopra for inspiring our theme this year: Heroes and Villains.
Everyone loves a hero, that's certainly true.
But sometimes playing a bad guy or gal is fun too!
And the battles they have are the stuff of legends...
While superheroes are great, kids can also think more broadly about the theme. We all know that doctors, nurses, teachers, grocery store clerks, mailmen, and others have served as our heroes this last year. Maybe a parent or grandparent is a hero to your child.
Villains can take many shapes as well - from Voldemort to vampires. Defeating villains can help us overcome fears: taking down a bully can make kids feel powerful and smart! Or maybe we just want to indulge our wicked side once in a while to imagine being a sneaky thief, a cunning spy, or a fierce dragon!
THE WFEE ACADEMY IS BACK!
As we eagerly anticipate the possibility of a full time return to the classroom, there are still virtual hours to fill. The WFEE Academy starts up again Monday, March 15th for its final two weeks. New offerings include Invention Convention, a way to encourage innovative problem solving plus a look at Pop Art and some tips on creating physical comedy. The free, interactive programming is meant to get kids thinking while creating opportunities for a little fun. Sign up now - https://www.wfee.org/wfee-academy. Some reminders, scheduling to accommodate for the differing schedules of fully remote and hybrid students has been challenging. This schedule is by grade, not by school. And, if the class doesn't match up exactly with your child's schedule, consider registering either a grade up or a grade below. Our educators understand they will be presenting to mixed age groups. Classes need a minimum of 5 students to run.
Last call for Kids' Corner spring enrichments! We're excited to have begun to offer on-site enrichment classes on Wednesday afternoons at Kids' Corner.
Join us for NEW on-site semesters of Kidstock! In the Spotlight (Grades K-2) and Super Science Fun: Space Pioneers (Grades 1-5) both starting in March/April with limited spots available.
We also have an array of virtual enrichment options available. Join us for a NEW semester of Virtual Super Science Fun: Detective Missions (Grades 1-5) or get a prorated price on our other virtual options such as: Hogwarts Role Play, Karate, Storytime Adventures, Math Magicians & more!

Hi Everyone,
We hope you had a wonderful week and were able to enjoy a few extra minutes outside with the warm temperatures and sun we had for a few days! We also hope that you enjoyed a few extra minutes of day in the afternoon as we moved our clocks ahead.
Literacy Week at Lynch!
A week devoted to literacy will be held at Lynch this week! In lieu of an All School Meeting this month we will be holding a special Read Across Lynch Day on Wednesday, March 17th. On Monday or Thursday dress in an outfit that represents your culture or Winchester because Reading is for Sharing! Then on Tuesday or Friday wear your rainbow outfits to show that Reading is Beautiful! On Wednesday, dress as your favorite character or wear your pajamas to Zoom! There will be a special Read Across Lynch Day with mystery guest readers, and more! We are looking forward to celebrating our love of reading all week!
Winchester Math Competition
We are student organizers of the Winchester Math Competition (WinMaC) at WHS. We established WinMaC in 2015 after noticing a lack of math competitions geared towards the younger mathletes, who we observed had far less opportunities to discover and participate in competitive math. Our mission is thus to create a fun and inspirational, yet challenging, contest fostering greater interest in mathematical problem solving outside of school. We aim to cultivate a love for math especially in students intimidated by the idea of "difficult math."
Due to this year's pandemic, WinMaC will be completely online from April 17th to 18th; we wanted to ask for your help in WinMaC's outreach. Specifically, we would be grateful if you could spread the word on social media, or help us get in contact with the Winchester elementary school principals to mention our competition in their newsletters.
Thank you, WinMaC Contest Directors

Elementary Conferences
March 30 is Voting Day in Winchester and three of our elementary schools and the middle school are used as voting sites. We cannot accommodate both students and voters in our buildings, so PreK-5 elementary students (AA Cohort) will have a remote learning day for the morning of 3/30. All students will be dismissed from remote learning at 11:20 with no classes (specialists included for BB Cohort) after 11:20 AM. The remainder of the day will be used by teachers for our usual family conferences. On March 31st, there will be no classes for students in PreK-5, as this will used for be a full family conference day. More information about registering for conference sessions will be sent to families soon. Choice Board Submissions!
We encourage everyone to participate and submit monthly here. Please be sure to check out the Lynch Website which showcases our monthly winners submissions. Upcoming "Curriculum Discussions"
