As of January 18, the State of Illinois determined that Chicago made significant enough progress as a region in the fight against COVID-19 to move into Tier 2 Mitigations Measures allowing the reopening of businesses at limited capacities.

If Chicago's positivity rates continue to decline, we may move into Tier 1 mitigations. In order to move to Tier 1 which includes limited capacity indoor dining, Chicago needs to maintain a 6.5% or lower positivity rate for three consecutive days.

The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) provides loans to help businesses keep their workforce employed during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. This round of the PPP continues to prioritize millions of Americans employed by small businesses by authorizing up to $284 billion toward job retention and certain other expenses through March 31, 2021, and by allowing certain existing PPP borrowers to apply for a Second Draw PPP Loan.

Small businesses and gig workers are invited to participate in a town hall on stimulus package #2 co-hosted by Commissioner Bridget Gainer, SBA Director Bo Steiner and DCEO Director Erin Guthrie.
