RULES QUIZ - DEFINITIONS

1.   A worm that is half underground is a loose impediment and may be removed.

a.    True

b.    False

2.   A wrong green is any green on the course other than the putting green of the hole being played and is part of the general area.

a.    True

b.    False

3.   When a line on the ground defines the course boundary edge, stakes may be used to show where the boundary edge is, but they have no other meaning.

a.    True

b.    False

4.   Any growing thing inside the edge of a bunker, such as grass, is not part of the bunker.

a.    True

b.    False

5.   Equipment of the player includes their golf cart, whether or not it is motorized.

a.    True

b.    False

ANSWERS:

1.   True. A worm is a loose impediment when it can be "removed easily". Removed easily means by hand, with a tee, or with a divot repair tool. It is possible that a worm cannot be removed easily in which case it would not be a loose impediment, but this is unlikely.

2.   True. Any putting green on the course (including a practice putting green) other than the putting green of the hole being played is a wrong green. A wrong green is part of the general area.

3.   True. When stakes are used without lines on the ground, the stakes define the boundary for the out-of-bounds. When stakes are used with lines on the ground, the stakes have no other meaning related to the out-of-bounds other than showing a visual of where the boundary lies. The line on the ground defines the boundary for the out-of-bounds. However, the stakes are still considered boundary objects and may not be removed, nor is free relief allowed.

4.   True. A ball lies in a bunker when it is on sand, on a loose impediment in the bunker, or on an obstruction in the bunker. A ball is not considered in a bunker when it lies on anything growing. For example, on an area of grass within a large bunker.

5.   True. Anything carried or used by the player is the player's equipment. This includes the player's motorized or non-motorized cart.
