February 2025 Newsletter

2025 LPRA Membership Renewal

Notices were sent last week to all members who need to renew. We ask that you submit your membership fees at your earliest convenience, and we thank you for your continued support of our Association!  If you have any questions, please contact info@longpointrpa.com

Note: Members that renew for a two-year term before May 15, will be entered into the early renewal extension membership draw for both 2025 and 2026.

One important reason for being a member? Today we received a call about a property where the heat pump had been running for a few days and was coated in ice.  Unfortunately, the owner is not a member and, therefore, we had no contact information. We did make contact with a neighbouring member.

Caught On Camera

We were notified mid November regarding an incident on October 16, 2024. An individual allegedly trespassed at a property located on Beach Avenue and an item was removed from the property that held great sentimental value to the property owner. If anyone has information as to who this person may be, please contact info@longpointrpa.com  The item can be returned, no questions asked.

Fishing and Hunting Yard Sale/Show

The Long Point Area Fish and Game Club will be holding their annual sale this coming Saturday, February 8, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Port Rowan Community Centre, 14 College Ave. Port Rowan. The admission is $4.00. There is something for everyone - commercial displays, liquidations, outdoor yard sale items, fishing/hunting items, conservation items, etc. New, used and antique! Be sure to check it out.

LPRA Annual General (AGM) Meeting

Our next AGM is scheduled for June 14, 2025. Please consider submitting your name for a position on the Board. The LPRA Board is strictly volunteer based and while the salary is non-existent, it’s very fulfilling. There are 11 board positions which all have a two-year term. Each year on a rotation basis, either five or six positions expire.  Now is the time to think about putting your name forward for a position. If you are interested or want further information, please contact info@longpointrpa.com

Causeway Paving Project

The paving portion of the Causeway project was completed in November 2024. The installation of approximately 3 km of exclusion fencing along the Causeway began shortly after and should be completed in the Spring of 2025.

We have been in contact with NC staff regarding the proposed Causeway landscaping designs. Once we receive feedback, we will advise our membership.

Mayor Martin Takes Leave Of Absence

Norfolk County Mayor Amy Martin has provided notice that she will take an unpaid leave of absence from her role as Mayor beginning Wednesday, January 29, 2025, ahead of the February 27, 2025, Provincial Election.

Depending on the results of the February 27 Provincial Election, Mayor Martin will either resume her role as Mayor, or Norfolk County Council will begin the process of filling any resulting vacancy, as outlined by the Municipal Act.
