Erika Bruhnke

Vice President, Training Services, RailPros
Erika Bruhnke is the Vice President of Training Services for RailPros, leading the organization’s Training and Media Services divisions. These divisions create and deliver vital rail safety programs to both contractor and railroad employees, as well as supporting the RailPros staff with their training needs.

Prior to joining RailPros, Erika spent a decade with BNSF Railway. She began as a Management Trainee, graduating to the role of a Terminal Trainmaster in Seattle, WA. She quickly promoted to a Division Safety Manager in Billings, MT and a few years later to a Senior Safety Manager role at BNSF headquarters.

After joining the system safety team, she progressed through the safety ranks, concluding her BNSF career as the Director of System Safety where she oversaw all system safety communications and training.

During her time with BNSF, Erika also was an active participant in regional diversity councils, eventually assuming the role as President of the Women’s Network.

Currently, Erika serves on the Board of Directors for the National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association (NRC) and the League of Railway Women (LRW), and participates on Committee 24 with the American Railway Engineering & Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA) and the Supplier and Young Professionals Committees with the American Short Line & Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA).

Michele L. Malski
Founder and President, Succession Planning for Railroads Investing in the Next Generation (SPRING)
Director-At-Large, League of Railway Women
As a second generation railroader, Michele Malski knew early on that she wanted to make an impact in the railroad industry.

Founding Succession Planning for Railroads Investing in the Next Generation or SPRING LLC, Michele recruits next generation railroaders for employers and helps employers retain that talent with various custom training and mentorship programs.

Before connecting the dots for candidates and employers alike, Michele worked with the American Short Line and Railroad Association (ASLRRA)/Short Line Safety Institute in Washington, D.C. as their Manager of Safety and Hazmat Training programs.

What continues to be the keystone of Michele's drive and passion will always be her experience as a Trainmaster with BNSF in Minot, North Dakota, Division Trainmaster with Canadian Pacific in Binghamton, NY, and Operational Manager with Bombardier Transportation/MARC commuter lines in Baltimore, Maryland.

Prior to her operational experience in the trainmaster world, Michele graduated from Cornell University with a major of Industrial Labor Relations and Law and Society. In addition, she holds an MBA from Quantic University and a specialty credential in Diversity and Inclusion from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). 

Michele is also engaged with the League of Railway Women (LRW), as a Director-At-Large on their Board of Directors, and a temporary chair on the LRW Mentorship Committee. Michele is the Chair of the Young Professionals Committee with ASLRRA, and recently joined the Transportation Club of Kansas City's Board of Directors. 

Michele is an avid runner and cheers for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ray Verrelle, P.E.
Vice President Engineering Services, Amtrak
Ray Verrelle has over 29 years in the railroad industry in the areas of infrastructure design, construction, and operations.  

He currently holds the position of VP Engineering Services for Amtrak where he oversees all aspects of infrastructure engineering, including design, engineering standards, infrastructure asset management and safety.

In his 21 years at Amtrak, he has held the positions of AVP Engineering and Design, Deputy Chief Engineer Structures, Deputy Chief Engineer Construction, Deputy Chief Engineer Electric Traction, Director Electric Traction and Senior Construction Engineer.

Ray has also worked in the private sector for Gannett Fleming Transit and Rail Systems as Chief Engineer – Electric Traction.

Ray earned a BS from Temple University in Civil Engineering and is active in AREMA.
Samantha Brandon
Human Resources Generalist, The Greenbrier Companies
Samantha Brandon is a Human Resources Generalist for Greenbrier Marmaduke.

One of Greenbrier’s core values is "Respect for People". They also have a commitment called IDEAL, for Diversity and Inclusion. Samantha has a strong passion for supporting both of these areas.

She is from a small town in northeast Arkansas and is a graduate of Arkansas State University with an Associate and Bachelor of Science, focusing on psychology and education.

Samantha obtained her Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) designation in 2021 and has been in the Human Resources field for over 10 years.

Prior to that she was in mental health case management. This combination of experience has provided her the opportunity to serve with empathy and provide resources for her team of over 300 people.
