Be a Part of the Change: A Guide to Customizing State Plane for 2022
Presented by: Dr. Michael Dennis, National Geodetic Survey
We hope you already know about the State Plane Coordinate System of 2022 (SPCS2022). But you may not know how (or whether) you can provide input on the design of SPCS2022 zones. If you want to be a part of the change in SPCS2022, then this webinar will provide useful information—even if you are already acquainted with the request, proposal, and design submittal process.

A Message from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, Public Land Survey Office (PLSO)

The 2019 Washington State Association of County Auditors (WSACA) Conference was held in Tacoma this past September. Bob Knuth, PLSO Manager, was invited to speak. As part of his talk, “Survey Recording Backward & Forward,” Bob advocated a completed and initialed hard copy of the Auditor’s Checklist, RCW 58.09.110 and WAC 332-130-050, by the surveyor be submitted with any map for filing. Bob made it clear that the Auditors could not demand a completed checklist. However, Bob suggested that a completed checklist by the surveyor is a practical way to provide notice to the Auditor that the survey will comply with survey recording requirements without additional scrutiny.

Bob provided the following letter to the Auditors at the conference with the advice that they should only reject a survey or map based on the checklist. He also made it clear that the Auditors should include the checklist, listing the items deficient with the rejected survey. If you have any suggestions, issues or concerns with this approach please contact Bob Knuth. He would happy to speak with you.

Notice of Public Hearing - WAC 332-130
If you have an interest in monument preservation within rights of way please attend the upcoming public meeting concerning WAC 332-120-080. This proposed addition to WAC 332-130 will, if implemented, facilitate the use of Memorandums of Understanding (MOU)s between the Department of Natural Resources and local agencies. The goal of the change is to allow local governments to annually plan and report preserved survey monuments through the temporary removal or destruction permit required in RCW 58.24.040.  This amendment and the MOUs will be used to coordinate survey monument perpetuation/preservation efforts with roadway chip seal resurfacing projects.
Hearing Date and Location(s) : October 7, 2019, at 1:30 p.m., at the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Tumwater Compound, 801 88th Avenue S.E., Main Conference Room, Tumwater, WA 98501-7019.
