LSC's aviation maintenance students visit the 148th Fighter Wing
Students in LSC's Aviation Maintenance Technician program visited the 148th Fighter Wing last week to learn more about many diverse aviation-related careers at the airbase including the fuel shop, weapons load shop, aerospace ground equipment, nondestructive inspection, and the aircraft electric shop. Students also enjoyed a tour of the main hangar and spoke with many aircraft maintenance experts at the airbase. We are grateful for our strong partnership with the 148th and their service to our community and country.
Exciting progress on Hawks Landing!
There's exciting progress being made on Hawks Landing, the new student lounge area and event center located on the second floor of the main corridor. The flooring is being installed, and some furniture has been delivered with more on the way. Construction is on schedule to be completed in the next couple of months!
LSC students to receive CRRSAA funding this week
The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II (HEERF II) is authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), which was signed into law on December 27, 2020. In total, the CRRSAA authorizes $81.88 billion in support for education, in addition to the $30.75 billion expeditiously provided last spring through the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Lake Superior College administration, in close consultation with the LSC Student Senate and other student groups, has set up a disbursement plan to distribute more than half of the funding directly to students. The plan has been approved by President Rogers and the Minnesota State system office.

LSC successfully distributed $1.8 million in CRSAA funds to students today, March 31, in $500 and $750 increments. The upload to Bank Mobile is currently in progress and most students will have access to the funds in the coming days. More information will be sent out via email to students, and updates will be made available on our website and social media. We know this has been a difficult year for many, and we are grateful for this federal support for our students and campus.
Sign up for the COVID-19 Vaccine Connector
The State of Minnesota has launched the COVID-19 Vaccine Connector, a new tool to help Minnesotans find when, where, and how to get their COVID-19 vaccine. All state employees, who are Minnesota residents, are encouraged to sign up on the Vaccine Connector. Signing up means you will be alerted when you are eligible for vaccination, connected to resources to schedule an appointment, and provided vaccination opportunities in your area.

When you sign up, the form asks what industry you work in. Higher Education is not explicitly listed as an industry in the drop-down menu. Like most state employees, we are encouraged to select "Other/None" and put "Higher Education" or "Government" in the description box.
