Week 2 of Fall Semester 2021 Underway
We hope the new semester is still off to a great start! Halls, classrooms and parking lots remain busy and things are starting to settle in after a busy first week. Welcome Week activities are being held at the Downtown Center, Center for Advanced Aviation and the Emergency Response Training Center (ERTC) this week. Welcome, IceHawks!
LSC in the Community
Lake Superior College was proud to participate in the Duluth YMCA's (Community Services Branch) Back to School Resource Fair at the Harbor Highlands Community Center once again this year. We provided pens, notebooks and frisbees, and talked with local youth about opportunities to attend college and get on a successful career path. Representatives from LSC have another busy week and weekend coming up as #IceHawkNation will be well represented at the Minnesota State Fair on Thursday and Friday, as well as at Twin Ports Pride and Labor Day events throughout the weekend.
LSC Foundation Awards Over $100,000 in Student Scholarships for Fall Semester
The Lake Superior College Foundation has once again awarded well over $100,000 in student scholarships this fall semester. Students applied for scholarships this spring, recipients were notified towards the end of spring semester, and all recipients who remained eligible were awarded the scholarships late last week. Nearly half of all scholarships went to non-traditional students. Scholarships were also pretty evenly distributed between new and returning students, helping both recruitment and retention efforts at LSC. This funding is made possible thanks to generous contributions from individual donors, community and industry partners, and government partners including St. Louis County and the State of Minnesota.

In addition to scholarships, the LSC Foundation has also been partnering with the Business Office and Student Services to help administer emergency grants to students who have faced financial hardship associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, nearly $100,000 has been distributed to over 160 students. The LSC Foundation is continuing to offer emergency grants up to $1,000, while funding lasts. Current students can apply online. Please contact the Foundation at foundation@lsc.edu with any questions.
COVID-19 Related Updates
Mask Up and Take the Shot, IceHawks!

Safety remains our highest priority. Masks/face covering continue to be required inside all public spaces on all Lake Superior College campus locations, regardless of vaccination status.

Vaccinations: Minnesota State is following the guidance from the State of Minnesota and Minnesota Department of Health on vaccinations of our students and employees.

All state workers, including all LSC employees, must either be fully vaccinated or be tested for COVID every week beginning September 8. Employees are able to find additional information on available vaccines at www.mn.gov/covid19. While students are not currently required to be vaccinated (with exceptions in some programs, including some healthcare programs), we are strongly encouraging all students to get vaccinated as soon as possible. The most effective way we can reduce the spread of COVID-19 and avoid further restrictions as we move forward is to get vaccinated as soon as possible, if you’re not already. For more information on this and how to find a vaccine location, please visit mn.gov/covid19/
